Assalam O Alaikum Steemians!

I hope you all are doing well and fine. This is my achievement 3 post,

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is copying someone else's work and presenting it as your own. It is done without providing a proper citation. It can also be said that plagiarism is stealing someone's work.

Types Of Plagiarism

TYPES.jpg

Source

There are many types of plagiarism. The common ones are mentioned below.

Direct Plagiarism

It is the copying of a section of someone else's work word to word without any quotation marks or attribution.
Source

Accidental Plagiarism

"When someone unintentionally fails to properly give credit to the original source of an idea, piece of data, article or other research."
Source

Self Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism is basically recycling your own words. It is to take a text of yours that you have previously published and make it appear as if it is new.
Source

Mosaic Plagiarism

It is a type of plagiarism in which text from the source is written without placing quotation marks. It can also include the changing of words while the meaning and the structure of the text are the same as the text taken from the source.

How To Avoid Plagiarism

Source

"To avoid plagiarism, you must give credit whenever you use

  • another person's idea, opinion, or theory;
  • any facts, statistics, graphs, drawings—any pieces of information—that are not common knowledge;
  • quotations of another person's actual spoken or written words; or
  • paraphrase of another person's spoken or written words."

Citation Methods

Source

  • Link the exact source of the content which you have taken.

  • For example:

    download.jpg
    Source

Here the picture is not mine, so I have given the exact link to the content in the "Source" text.

  • The sentence which you have exactly copied should be placed in quotation marks.

  • For example:

"Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement." Source

Here I have exactly copied the text, so I have written it in quotation marks. Also, I have linked the source to the content.

  • Link the closest reference to the paraphrased text.

  • For example:

Paraphrasing plagiarism is to write someone else's work in your own words without citation. Source

Here I have paraphrased a sentence so I have linked the closest reference to the text, it is so close that even the original text is highlighted when you click on the "Source". For this, you can highlight a text with your mouse and right-click, then click on "copy link to highlight". This is how you will get the exact link in case of a text.

I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to embrace them.
