Plagiarism is the act of stealing someone else’s work and presenting it as your own without giving the credit or taking consent from the true owner. According to Wikipedia, “Plagiarism” is defined as,

”Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work " Source

It is no doubt that many of us think that plagiarism is the easy and fast way out of your problems but actually it is destroying or, I might say, ravaging one’s ability to create, produce or inaugurate original thoughts and ideas. The act of plagiarism is not just the breach and infringement of other’s work but also choking one’s own potential to construct and come up with the work of the highest quality.

There might be a feeling or a question that can be arising in some of us, that, should we not use other’s work at all? The answer to this is contrary to this statement. It is necessary and important because of the fact that by referencing citations, or anything that is well-recognized will help your arguments and observations to stand out because it is backed up by the references of leaders that did years of research in that field, topic, or area of expertise. We have witnessed some of the most cutting-edge inventions, by using previous works and comes up with something new and original, take the example of the evolution of computers.

There are many types of plagiarism, the one I discussed earlier cannot be called a work of plagiarism as the author is giving proper citations and attribution to the real owner, and also the author is not using other’s work or idea neither is representing them as their own. Those who are purloining other’s work should be held accountable for their action, some of the most common types of plagiarism are as follows:

  • Paraphrasing:
This type of plagiarism happens, when one changes or alters the order of the words. Copying another creator’s structure or style without mentioning them or giving credit also comes under the paraphrasing plagiarism.

  • Patchwork plagiarism:
This is also one of the common type of plagiarism that we see in everyday life. In this type, one copies and paste the works of different authors and artists, and tries to come up with a new text without giving credits to the owners.

  • Self-plagiarism:
When a person using her/his own work again and again from an already published work of himself/herself, comes under self-plagiarism.

How to avoid plagiarism?

The simple solution to avoid plagiarism is simple, and that is, by mentioning and giving credit to the real owner whenever it’s due. Believe yourself enough to come up with the greatest of ideas.

This is all from my side regarding the posts for achievement 3. Thanks for giving it time to read.
