What is plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of someone else's ideas and portraying them as your own. It is easy to copy and paste and mix and remix; computers and the internet makes this a daily possibility. This reality makes plagiarism closer than ever before. Sometimes inadvertently, we can take someone else's statements and post them in our blog or other publication and present them as our own.

Plagiarism can occur in any form of production or reproduction. As content creators, we consume all forms of media via writing, or audio, or video. Multimedia content is the norm today. Mixed media content comes at us rapidly through the Internet and other digital platforms. Due to this ease of access, we must take precautions to properly cite sources and mention the people from whom we gain our ideas.

Plagiarism is a form of dishonesty.

As people who wish to be influencers, our reputation is essential to our blockchain blogging work. In the world of Blockchain blogging, our influence, i.e., our reputation, is calculated in a score. We must protect that reputation so that we are seen as credible and trustworthy. Plagiarism takes away from community trust in us. Inadvertently failing to cite or using others' ideas without referencing erodes the trust upon which our blockchain community is built. If we understand this fully, we realize that plagiarism is the opposite of the community of confidence we are trying to create.
