Hello dear steemit community. Today I will be presenting to you my achievement 3 task here on steemit and on this edition I will be talking principally on plagiarism

As one can say, Plagiarism is the act of representing another man or author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. It could also be defined as the act of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them on in a manner that presents you as the author.
Plagiarism can be effectively carried out in most fields of life and plagiarism is strictly prohibited on steemit. It carries a number of sanctions ranging from being muted to being extinct from communities. There exist different types of plagiarism some of which are
1. SELF PLAGIARISM
Self plagiarism is manifested when a steemian submits a piece of work that has been submitted by him already. In other words when he or she duplicates a work presenting it to look like a different one. Many people fall in this trap because they will do the work remarkably in a certain community and will want to duplicate this in other communities when questions are. They will never want to have that work re-done. Instead they will just want to do “copy and paste”.

2. DIRECT PLAGIARISM
This to me is a form of plagiarism that involve the direct copy of someone’s piece of work (word to word) without the concern and permission of the author which to me is very terrible and punishable even by law because the plagiarist has nothing to show forth but rather prefers to work on someone else’s efforts.

3. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism is very common and occurs when a person accidentally copies a portion of another man’s work in the process of their findings without citing the author as the source or reference. It is seemingly difficult to avoid. It also occurs when a person fails to quote their source, when a person misquotes the source or does a paraphrasing without giving proper attributes to the author

4. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
In the case of mosaic plagiarism, a person copies words from a source without the author go ahead and even fails to put the borrowed/copied words in quote. This is very common with students who use authors content without using quotation marks. With this type of plagiarism, people borrow content from sources without attaching anything to it showing they got it from that site and others will not even put them in quotes

EFFECTS OF PLAGIARISM
1. Destroys Professional Reputation
A professional business person, politician, or public figure may find that the damage from plagiarism follows them for their entire career. Not only will they likely be fired or asked to step down from their present position, but they will surely find it difficult to obtain another respectable job.
2. Legal Repercussions
The legal repercussions of plagiarism can be quite serious. Copyright laws are absolute. One cannot use another person’s material without citation and reference. An author has the right to sue a plagiarist. Some plagiarism may also be deemed a criminal offense, possibly leading to a prison sentence.
3. Monetary Repercussions
Many recent news reports and articles have exposed plagiarism by journalists, authors, public figures, and researchers. In the case where an author sues a plagiarist, the author may be granted monetary restitution

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
Follow these four steps to ensure your work is free from plagiarism:

  1. Keep track of the sources you consult in your research.
  2. Paraphrase or quote from your sources (and add your own ideas).
  3. Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.

To conclude, I will suggest we should adopt a creative attitude so as to walk away from the practice of plagiarism as it will help us to be fast and critical thinkers as well as solution givers.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them
Thanks for being there to follow my achievement 3 and hope you learnt something new
