This act is a lousy one in terms of article/content creating and generally in life. Plagiarism simply means the pirating, pinching, echoing, nicking, cribbing or copying of someone's content which can be article, music, video, image, e. t. c., without a legal permission from the person or crediting the author of the content. It's an act that calls for penalty as it consequence. Plagiarism is similar to copyright infringement but not equivalent to it. Many countries are strict when it comes to plagiarism, country like India does not take it lightly with those who fall victim to this law, many are being sentenced to prison because of plagiarism.

In plagiarism, not only the authors' words are copied, including his ideas. Although it doesn't mean one can't collect another's words or information, you are allowed to do so but you should do that only if the content is a copyright one, also you should endeavor to source the content. When you add source to the content copied, it simply means you didn't steal it and at the same time crediting the author.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

There are numerous types of Plagiarism, which will be discussing the major types people always fall prey to;

1. DIRECT PLAGIARISM : This is a type of plagiarism which occurs when an author copies the content of different articles from different authors, word to word, without any addition of quotation marks or source, hence claiming the content belongs to him. This type is like that of complete plagiarism.

2. COMPLETE PLAGIARISM : This type of plagiarism is a very crucial one. This is when someone who calls him/herself a content creator steals the content of another article writer and broadcasts it to be his own. This is a severe case, which is also a severe fraudulent act.

3. SELF PLAGIARISM : As the name implies, it occurs when an author copies his previous published work or content. This type of plagiarism has been on debate topic several times because many journals are confused on the issue of you copying yourself but the true fact of it is that you're copying your old work and not giving the audience fresh information.

4. PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM : This is the most common type of plagiarism. a cunning type. It involves copying someone else content using synonymous words in replace of the once the main author used. To be precise, it means making little changes or playing about with the words the main author used.

5. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM : It occurs when a writer copies phrases or sentences which contains main idea, from different sites, then merge them together to form a new content. But the new content been produced preaches no different idea from the main contents he stole.

6. ACCIDENTAL PLAGARIARISM : As it name implies, it occurs when an author unintentionally copies someone else content. Such can happen only out of negligence or mistake. Nevertheless, whether you copy or not, as far as you took someone else content without his/her consent, its plagiarism and will be dealt with seriously, if caught.

Few major tips on how to avoid plagiarism:

  • Always add the inverted comma (".......") at the beginning and ending of the content you collected. It's a proof that the idea was borrowed and not yours.
  • Citation - very important, for both videos, image, article e. t. c. It's very simple to cite a content.
    Do it this way;
    ~[anything you wanna write here, some people prefer writing "Source".](the link of the content you borrowed should be pasted here).
(Note: the brackets used above are different)

Like I told you before they are simple to use. So we should endeavor to make original contents or use the citation samples above incase we're using borrowed idea, in order to avoid penalty.

It's very simple and not difficult to do.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
