What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is taking somebody else's words, work, or ideas and representing them like it's your own without their knowledge.
Types of plagiarism
Plagiarism can be seen in different kinds. I'll mention some above;
1)Complete plagiarism
Complete plagiarism is when one's work is completely taken and represented under somebody else's name.
2)Direct plagiarism
Direct plagiarism is taking a part of someone else's work without changing any words or using quotation marks.
- Self-plagiarism
Self-plagiarism is using your own but old ideas that you used somewhere else before and sharing them on a different platform like it's a brand new idea.
4)Mosaic plagiarism
Mosaic plagiarism, also known as patchwriting, happens when you take phrases without using quotation marks or a proper paraphrase. To prevent this you should cite your source appropriately.
5)Accidental plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism happens when someone unintentionally paraphrases or neglects to cite the source.
What causes plagiarism?
People usually do plagiarism when they see a certain topic drawing people's attention. So they want to create something similar to be successful. But instead of creating something new, they use other's ideas that have already been accepted by people.
Plagiarism is also done when one is lacking uniqueness so they try to make their work look better by using fancy sentences. So they look for these sentences in other's work.
How can we avoid plagiarism?
You should cite the source if you're taking anything from them.
Use this markdown [source] (link) (no space between them) for your references.
Citation Method
If I say that you can use other content then it is true but for this purpose, you have to use the Citation method. Citation means that if you use others' content( Images, Quotes, or videos) then you have to give credit to the real author by giving the source of that content.
It is so simple firstly you have to publish that required image or video of others then you have to mention the source.
For Example:
A "citation" is the way you tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. It also gives your readers the information necessary to find that source again. source
Also, you should credit the author if you're using their work.
You can use a plagiarism checker to avoid accidental plagiarism.
Lastly, I wanted to say be more creative and confident in your ideas.
"I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them."
congratulations!
