PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is the act or practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own without giving them the credit.

Plagiarism can be seen in many forms such as copying and pasting from the internet and submitting someone else's work as your own. It is considered as a serious offense academically and professionally. You may end up losing a job or failing a class if found guilty. It may also result to legal action.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

*Photo Plagiarism: This is the act of using someone else's photographs or images without taking proper permission from the owner. To avoid legal action for copywrite infringement, you need to abstain from using someone's photo without their permission or giving them the credit.

*Mosiac Plagiarism: This is a situation whereby one uses multiple sources to create a new work without applying proper citation. Endeavour to give proper credit to the source.

*Verbatim Plagiarism: This is defined as copying someone else's work word-for-word by copying a sentence or paragraph without giving them the credit. Use a quotation mark and give proper citation to avoid the consequences.

*Idea Plagiarism: This is when you take someone's ideas and make it seem like it's yours. We should give credit to someone else's concept, theories and arguments.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

These are the few ways to avoid plagiarism:

*Keep track of all the sources when making your research.

*Use your own words to summarize an information gotten from a source instead of copying it directly.

*When making a research on a particular topic, you can gain more knowledge by using multiple sources for a better understanding.

*If you're not certain about your work constituting plagiarism then you should ask someone for help or guidance.

CITATION

This is the practice of giving credit and reference to the sources you used in your work. This is necessary because it prevents plagiarism and gives the credit to the original author. Applying the proper citation makes your work looks credible. An Example; “The museum is full of rare and precious treasures.” [Source](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/full)
