Achievement 3 by @nneoma08. Content Etiquette
Hello Steemians. It’s a great privilege for me to be here again for the presentation of my achievement 3. My task is on;
Plagiarism
This according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary means “To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own: to use (another’s production) without crediting the source”
Most people think that plagiarism is stealing just someone else’s words. Not just that, it also means stealing another’s ideas. It is expected that you cite even paraphrased words to avoid committing plagiarism.
Types of Plagiarism
- Direct plagiarism also called Copy and paste plagiarism is when one using a paragraph from another person’s work without citing the person.
- Self plagiarism should s when you use an old copy of your work in the present one and acting like it’s new without citing it properly.
- Mosaic plagiarism is when one copies and pastes texts or patches from the work of other researchers without citing them appropriately.
- Global plagiarism is when someone uses the work of another like a friend or family member or even buying it and presenting it in presence as his or her work.
Possible Consequences of plagiarism
- You will end up ruining your reputation and possibly ending your career.
- You may fail the course of study
- You may face copyright infringements.
- You may face possible suspension from your school or group involved.
You can avoid or check plagiarism by;
- Quoting, paraphrasing or summarizing the other person’s words or ideas.
- Include a citation of the texts and references to give credit to the original source in the text and the reference list.
- Read! Read! Read! You cannot have ideas if you do not read.
- The software called Turnitin is presently used by most individuals and groups in checking plagiarism. You can source for it to help you with checking plagiarism. source
With this my task, I have been able to adequately understand the content etiquette in the Steemit platform and I confidently maintain that I will keep to the rules and registrations guiding Steemit. Thank you so much for reading.
