Hello Steemians today I'm going to be writing on Basic security on steem.

As the owner of a steemit account,it can't be overemphasized the need for security of your account. When you register on steemit, a password is generated for you, with which you'll use to login to your account. This is called a master key/password. This Key is very central to your account and should be kept safe because if lost can't be gotten back.

Asides the master Key,there are other keys generated by steemit for you inorder to protect your steemit account because it's valuable and these keys need to be properly safeguarded.
Below are the keys, their functions and what roles they play in securing your steemit account.

MASTER PASSWORD

The Master Password is used to derive all keys for your account including the owner key. It is long and random to provide maximum security because if someone gets your master password, they can hack your account and steal all of the tokens in it, So keep your master password somewhere safe most recommended is you store an offline copy incase of drive failure or other calamities.

POSTING KEY

The Posting Key permits you to post, comment, edit, vote, vote down, resteem ( share content you find interesting to your followers)articles, follow or mute other accounts. Most users log into steemit everyday with the posting key, and there's a high probability to have your password stolen and your account hacked into, that's why steem provides a limited posting key to restrict the damage a hacked account would bring.

ACTIVE KEY

The Active Key is mostly used for the financial aspects of steem,to change user profile or trade
NOTE: These are the only time you should ever use your active key because your Active key controls ALL THE FUNDS IN YOUR ACCOUNT,and if your funds are transferred it's irreversible.

Memo Key:
This is the only key that can encrypt and decrypt private messages sent to you through your account.

OWNER KEY

This Key is the most powerful amongst the keys because it can change ANY KEY of an account.
Whoever has your account owner key can do every transaction the other keys can do, even lock you out of your account.

If you lose your keys, there's no way you can recover your account.

WHAT'S A STEEM WALLET?

A Steem wallet is like a 'purse' or a mobile app where your funds are kept. A Steem wallet afford you access to your coins and also the freedom to send and receive coins
When you download a Steem wallet, you'll get your own wallet address which resembles a bank account number, with which you can interact with the blockchain.
One of the reasons a Steem wallet is very important is because every transaction you make using the steem coin wallet is transparent and it stays on the blockchain for all to see.

Now we know what a steem wallet is and does, how do you transfer your steem token from your account to another user account?

To transfer your steem token to another user account you have to use your active key. Click wallet, you'll see 3 lines on the the far left, click on them, you'll see sign in and others, click sign in,it'll take you directly to log in. Log into your wallet with your username and active key password, click on the Steem dollar drop down arrow, then click on transfer like the image shown below

Next, input the username of the person you want to transfer to , input the amount, create a memo, click on next, then confirm transfer and transfer is made. Easy right? If after clicking next,it starts buffering like you can see in the image below, don't worry,go back check your account balance,if it hasn't sent, try again could be a network issue.
