Hello Newcomers Community,
I hope everyone is well. My name is Nayon Sarkar and I am from Bangladesh. I am happy that I am done with my Achievement 1 and 2. Today, I am going to talk about Plagiarism as a part of my Achievement 3.
What is Plagiarism?
First I go to my browser and search what is plagiarism. Then I know better about plagiarism. Simply put, passing off something else by one's name is called plagiarism.
This is a great injustice. In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.
How to avoid plagiarism :
You should always cite correctly to avoid plagiarism. Each text, image or video must be properly cited. You can take help of checker tool to see if your work is similar to others. But always try not to use other people's work.
But can words and ideas really be stolen?
According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. This is why everyone's property is protected under copyright laws.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM:-
Global plagiarism :
Global plagiarism means passing off someone else's text as your own. For example, if you pass on a story/poem written by someone else online, it falls under the category of global plagiarism. Since it is someone else's property, it is grand theft. To avoid such plagiarism you should write your own essay.
Verbatim plagiarism :
Verbatim plagiarism is copying and pasting someone else's words into your own work without attribution. For example, if you change a few words of someone else's text and use it, it falls under the scope of verbatim plagiarism.
Paraphrasing plagiarism :
Paraphrasing is simply breaking down the text into words. This constitutes plagiarism only when you rephrase the source's points as your own without citations. If you also translate someone else's text without citations, it falls into the category of plagiarism.
Patchwork plagiarism :
Patchwork plagiarism refers to plagiarizing a new text with phrases, and paragraphs from different sources.
Self-plagiarism :
Self-plagiarism is resubmitting the same work you submitted. This is a sign of dishonesty. So it is better to refrain from doing such things.
Can I use another person element on steemit?
No, Because Steemit follows plagiarism rules. But you can use copyright-free images and text using the source links.
