Heya!
Fellow steem-ians, it’s a great pleasure to present to you my third achievements which is about content etiquette ( achievement3, task: content etiquette). In other words, this task is all about plagiarism.
And one may ask what plagiarism is about? Is it the same as copy work? And does it have merits and demerits?

Plagiarism is the act of copying, taking or using ones idea, writing, article or any intellectual property without referencing or crediting the owner of that article. Plagiarism entails a lot, and am to say a little about it.
Plagiarism can be considered as a crime, cause what you are to use, you are not the owner of it. And besides you need to tell your readers or listeners that the statement or article you are using is someone’s work, so if they need more they can log onto that person’s site or the source you got it from for more information.
For instance, in the university when you are given assignment, and you are to use someone’s quote or definition you need to reference or acknowledge the lecturer where you got it from or else you will be penalized, which can cause you a lot.

Plagiarism is the same as copy work if and only if
it is referenced. If not it’s the same.
For instance, when you are asked the definition of food. “ any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc.”
source, this is not plagiarism. But when you don’t reference or show the source of the information, it’s plagiarism, which is wrong. For instance, the same example, what is good, any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc. This is without source which plagiarism.
This is also shown below in pictorial form;

source this is not plagiarism.

5E171AE6-FA50-4E09-AA83-BB65707352D2.png but this is, because there is no source of it.

Does plagiarism have any merit or demerit..?
I will say it has both. In the sense that;
When it used properly, that is with referencing and other things that will make it legit. Cause it gives us overview of what we are to do or what we have been asked to do. For instance, yo are given an assignment and you know nothing about it, you can go to google and search for more information, but you have to reference or source your information, that’s where the good aspect comes from.
But when you do this without giving credit to the owner of that information, you have made a mistake and that’s where the disadvantages comes from.

We should always give credit, reference or source information we get from the internet, this even add credibility to our work.
Thank you.
