ACHIEVEMENT 3 by maryamanda TASK: Content Etiquette
Hello lovely people. I am glad my achievement 2 was verified and here I am once again to complete my assignment 3 where I am supposed to write about plagiarism.
I have used the study guides provided by @cryptokannon,about content etiquette and have learnt the following.
PLAGIARISM MEANING
Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
This is really a bad act which needs to be stopped since some people steal other's work and act as if it's theirs making people believe that they are the sole creators of the content.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
There are basically four types of plagiarism in my own understanding and these are as follows;
- Direct plagiarism
This means transcription of a word-for-word section of someone else's work without attribution and without quotation marks. This is really unethical and dishonest.
One uses the words of another in the exact form they were used. It is also known as copy and paste.
- Self plagiarism
This is re-using one's own specific words from previously published texts and make it appear brand new.
It is when you resubmit your own previous work.
It is unacceptable to incorporate part of your old work into a new assigned one.

Mosaic plagiarism
This refers to when you borrow phrases from a source without using quotation marks while keeping to the original content or finds synonyms for the author's language while keeping the same general language structure and meaning as found in the original content.Accidental plagiarism
This occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes their sources by using similar words, group of words or sentences without their attribution.
THE BEST WAYS OF HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
- Commit yourself to doing you forr own work and don't copy.
- Understand good paraphrasing.
- Always seek for permission if it isn't your work.
- Always use quotation marks around notes taken directly from texts.
- Cite your sources of any content if is research work that is not your own.
- Avoid publishing incorrect information.
- Be 100% scrupulous in your note taking.
- A user needs to understand plagiarism, it's types and effects inorder for him or her to produce plagiarism-free content.
CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM
- Disqualification from the steemit platform.
- Loss of reputation and credibility on the steemit platform.
- It can also be considered felony under certain states and federal laws.
This can lead to a one year imprisonment - Plagiarism can also lead to expulsion from school for students caught cheating since they all take plagiarism as a serious crime.

CITATION
Toundi treats Father Gilbert as his new father, Father Gilbert teaches Toundi to read and write, and about Catholism.
Toundi believes in Catholism, but as the story progresses he drifts from his beliefs until the end, when he does not believe in God.
