Achievement 2 @kondua Task : Basic Security on Steem

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Dear all,

I am much delighted to join you once again as achievement 2 is concerned. This achievement post is to share my indent knowledge on Basic security of Steemit.
To be very sincere with myself I saw it to be very confusing until I sat down to learn the basic security of Steemit with help from @cherub27 and mentorship of @cryptokannon.
On like some social medium require security logins to keep safe your account, Steemit security is nothing to be compared to such securities.

Steemit gives users multiple keys namely the posting key, active key, memo key and owner key in other for safe security reasons. Each key mentioned above has it own function and therefore very important.

How to view keys

  • Login to your wallet
  • Select Keys and Permission

Keys and their functions

Posting key is used for voting , posting commenting and following other account. It is mostly used for daily activities. It is not used for financial transactions but there is the need to keep safe of it to prevent direct access of your account by third parties who may cause interferences by voting or posting with your account.

Active key gives access to the users to transfer, trade the internal market, control funds and change account setting (such as profile picture). The users have to be vigilant and be sure this key is kept safe and secure so that others can not take over your authority in performing financial aspects that are so costly for you.

Memo key doesn't give benefit now. Basically, this key is used to encrypt and decrypt private messages sent and received via the users’ account. In the future, it is hoped that the users can make private messaging by using this memo key.

Owner key is the most powerful and important key among other keys. It gives control for the users to change other keys’ password even the owner key itself when needed. This key is also used to recover a compromised account.
The point is since this type of key is very important, the users have to keep it safe and secure. By this way, we can prevent our Steemit account from the hacker’s control.

The difference between master password and owner key.

Master password
When you sign up Steemit for the first time, you will be given master password. This master password is the highest level security that performs very sensitive actions. It must be kept immediately in a safe place and should not be used in general. You can keep it offline such as in a paper and keep it in a safe place.

This master password derives all permission keys including owner key. When owner key can change all permission key ( posting key, active key, memo key and owner key ), but it can’t derives all keys, only master password can perform it.
Use permission keys to perform the specific purpose on Steemit, but keep the password key very secure, avoid using the master password for any operations when you access Steemit.

The use of Steemit wallet.

Steemit gives users the wide opportunities to create and publish contents and are therefore awarded for the contents in cryptocurrency.
Wallet is a fund based. And there are Steem, Steem power and Steem dollars that are all online based. The transactions made , earning , cryptocurrency exchange and transaction history can be there as well.

What the users can do on Steem wallet:

Users can send Steemit coins to other wallet of choice. Users can also convert Steem coins to Steem dollars, Steem Power and other cryptocurrency.
Users can keep safe Steem coins in Steem wallet.

Thanks for your attention.
