INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS ETIQUETTE?
Yourdictionary.com explained etiquette as the formal manners and rules that are followed in a social or professional settings.

It simply means that in every platform or environment you find yourself, there are certain rules that are laid down which are aught to be learnt and applied so as not to fall a victim of breaking or disobeying a rule directly or indirectly.

PLAGIARISM ON STEEMIT

Steemit as a platform is meant for the growth and encouragement of good writers but for one to become a good writer there are laid down rules that one must be acquainted to else once’s work after publishing might be termed (or seen) as Plagiarism and this brings me to the discussion of today.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM ?

Ignorance can be a disease but knowledge they say is power. The knowledge of plagiarism is what differentiate two writers with the same content, one is marked good and the other is marked bad.

Plagiarism can be seen in various ways through different context which I will be stating.
In my understanding, plagiarism is simply an act of copying, editing or using someone’s content in your post (or writeup) “without giving proper acknowledgment of the source from which the original (or actual) information was gotten from.

Plagiarism can be seen in different points ranging from;

  • Using of someone’s quote.
  • Using of someone’s Image.
  • Using a published Document.
  • Editing the content of someone’s work.
  • Paraphrasing of multiple work from different people and the likes of all that as been mentioned above with adequate citation.

Imagine working on a project or an idea for so long and then on publishing or presentation of your work, it get snatched (or taken) by someone else that now claims ownership of the research you have made. Painful and annoying isn’t it?. That is why the Steemit platform have come up with different strategies that can be used for citation of your work on the platform in acknowledgment of the person or website the idea of the post was originally or partially gotten. This way you’re making reference to the original owner of the content and doing a proper citation is what makes you at the long run along with a good writeup make you a qualified writer.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM ON STEEMIT

  1. Use proper quotation mark and citation when using someone’s quote in your write up.
    Example:

“An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God.” _Srinivasa Ramanujan.

  1. Use only free or authorized images on your work along with the source of the image.
Free images can be gotten from pixabay.com and any image used from that website can not be seen as plagiarism.

  2. When you use someone’s work sourced online to make reference to your work, make sure to properly cite the part where that person work was used by using a source link that refers a readers to the original content if they wish to know more about that area.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM ON STEEMIT

Through the knowledge of Achievement 3 on Steemit we are able to properly write and publish our work and also grow and gain acknowledgment for our work by properly avoiding any form of plagiarism but when decide not to heed to these rules then comes the consequences.

S/NConsequences:
1When you copy, edit or paraphrase someone else’s content with proper citation, your work is seen an unprofessional work which causes a delay in your progress (or growth) on Steemit platform.
2When we don’t perform a proper citation of our work on Steemit it can lead to a downvote of your post which reduces your reputation all the more.
3Using of any information online without proper knowledge as to if the information is free to use or not can make your work flagged or termed as plagiarism and this will lead to little or no benefit from the Steemit platform.

PLAGIARISIM CAN DO A LOT OF DAMAGE LIKE

  • Diminishing your academic reputation.
  • Diminishing a professional reputation.
  • Diminishing a students reputation.
  • It could even destroy legal reputation.

Plagiarism has legal and monetary repercussions, however we can choose to do away with plagiarism by doing the right sourcing and citation for our work to be admired and given a high rating.

CONCLUSION

“I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to embrace them”.
