Hi fellow steemians, I am glad to present my next achievement task in which I will be writing about content etiquette and plagiarism.

Etiquette according to oxford is the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group. In my understanding, etiquette is basically having a proper behavioral attitude within a particular society that is generally accepted. etiquette draws the line between norms and vices in a society. this society could be a class room, working place, religious ground, political groups or organizations.
Content etiquette now would be a proper or generally excepted way of presenting articles, projects or research which does not go against any form of regulation. Having said that, it would be best to talk about plagiarism which is basically opposite to content etiquette.

Plagiarism according to oxford is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. In lay man terms this is just copying another person's work which covers that which one is working on without asking or taking permission. There are various kinds of plagiarism, these are listed below.

  1. DIRECT OF VERBATIM PLAGIARISM

Direct plagiarism is the act of copying a part or any entire piece of someone's work without attribution or recognition. This is unethical and dishonest in all ways, punishments are giving to those found in such acts.

  2. MOSAIC OR PATCHWORK PLAGIARISM
This is a form of plagiarism where an individual borrows words or phrases from someone's work without proper recognition or reference to such sources.

  3. PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM

This plagiarism has to do with presenting someone's idea or work as if it were yours, this can be done by probably changing or using your own words to present someone's work.

  4. COMPLETE PLAGIARISM

This is the highest form of plagiarism, this is taking someone's work and presenting it as yours with your name and in attempt to take all credit. this is seen as intellectual theft and should be avoided.

  5. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM

Accidental plagiarism is when an individual forgets or ignores to acknowledge a specific source of his work either by not citing their source or misquoting their source or unintentionally uses familiar words or phrases without acknowledging the source. Though accidental plagiarism may not be intentional it still does not absolve an individual of being guilty of plagiarism.

  6. SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM

This type of plagiarism is when an individual misleads the public on his or her source of reference. it also is when someone's provides a false or non existing source.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  1. PROVIDE A SOURCE: when writing we are advised to state sources of our contents if any so that we may not be found guilty of plagiarism

  2. USE A PLAGIARISM CHECKER: There are ways in which we can check if our work has been written before or phrases within our work are already in existence. this can be done by using an online plagiarism checker which helps to find such cases if any.

  3. USE QUOTATIONS: While referring to someone's work, it is advised to use quotations in other to let the public know that this particular phrase or word is from another so that we wouldn't be found plagiarising.

  4. CREATE YOUR OWN IDEA: Most times we tend to just present someone's idea within our work just to avoid going the extra mile. We should learn to create our own ideas and use it within our works so that we would be appreciated and also avoid plagiarising.

CONCLUSION
It would be sad if we tend to see our work been plagiarized by another without permission so also we should not indulge in such behaviors as it is not only bad but at the same time punishable by law. I hope this content of mine would be appreciated and of course not plagiarized by anyone here on Steemit(LOL).
Finally, I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them. Thanks and see you on my next achievement.
