BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT

In this achievement task we will be basically speaking about the basic security here on steemit. I joined steemit 3 years ago and the password was only one at that time and there were no other keys unlike now. It was great that steem made their security more secured by having all the different keys to used in every transaction and everything you do here. So without further ado let's begin to answer all the questions for this task.

How to retrieve all your keys on steem?

If you haven't yet retrieved all your keys on steem, erased or forgot all your keys on your steem account but you have your master key, you can retrieve all your keys by logging in to steemit using it. After logging in with your master key there will be a dialog that will let you download a pdf file with all of your keys and instruction on how to use it. That is how I retrieve my password. So be careful not to let anyone get a hold of your master key as they can access all of your keys and can compromised your account therefore you can never retrieve it again once they regenerate a new password.

What are the Different Keys on Steem and their Functions?

POSTING KEY - Posting key is basically used to resteem another users' post, edit your own post, post an article, comment on an article and follow or mute other people's accounts.

ACTIVE KEY - It is used in opening or logging in your wallet, it is used for transferring funds to other users or withdrawing your funds, Steem Power up or down, SBD or steem dollars converting. It is also used to update your profile as well as your profile photo.

OWNER KEY - This can be used to changed all the keys of your account. You can used this owner key to recover your compromised account. So it is recommended to keep it offline where only you can have access to it.

MEMO KEY - This memo key is used in decrypting a memo that has been sent to you or encrypting a memo that you want to send. You can encrypt a memo only when you are transferring funds.

How to keep MASTER KEY?

I do not say that you should do how I do it but I keep my master key in a notepad in my personal computer and I also save it on my personal messages on my account. You can also write it on a piece of paper, keep it on your cellphone's notepad. This is only a suggestion but you can do what you think is best for you.

How to Transfer Your Steem Token to Another Steem User Account?

  • First log in to your wallet using your ACTIVE KEY

  • Then click on the inverted triangle beside the STEEM and click transfer

  • Then input the username of the account you want to transfer your steem and the amount of steem you want to send. After putting all the data click next. After clicking next this will require you to input your Active Key to confirm the transfer.

On my account I used Steem Keychain so that it will be easier and safer for me. This is only recommended for those who have personal computer. (I forgot to get a screenshot on the Steem transfer transaction using Steem Keychain so this screenshot was using the Posting Key transaction only but this has almost the same pop up message for every transaction.)

How to Power Up Your STEEM?

  • First is to log in to your wallet using your Active Key

  • Then click on the inverted triangle beside the STEEM and click POWER UP

  • Input the amount of STEEM you want to POWER UP. You can click the Balance if you want to POWER UP all of your STEEM. Then click POWER UP.

  • You will just click OK

  • After clicking the OK button this will require you to input your Active Key to confirm the POWER UP transaction.

This ACHIEVEMENT TASK 2: BASIC SECURITY ON STEEM help me to understand more about the basic security on steemit. I hope to learn more about steem as I continue on my journey in doing all of the achievement tasks.
