BASIC SECURITY IN STEEMIT

Good morning everyone. I concluded my Achievement1 about two weeks ago and I'm here again to complete my Achievement2.

The objective of this post is to provide information about basic security on steemit, such as how passwords work. It also aims at explaining the difference between posting key, active key, private key and memo key. Lastly, this post aims at helping new users like myself understand how to use the steemit wallet.

Below are the answers I have provided to the frequently asked questions:

Question 1: Have you received all your keys on steemit?
Yes, I have received all my keys on steemit.

Question 2: Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

Yes, I have a knowledge of these key functions and I will give brief notes on each of these keys:

  1. Posting key: This key allows users to make low-security transactions such as posting, commenting, editing, voting, resteeming and following or muting other accounts. Most users log into steemit many times a day or everyday. But this is very risky because your password may be compromised if it is used so many times.

  2. Active key: The active key is used for tasks of greater relevance such as transferring fund, powering up or down, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details, resetting the posting key and placing market order.

  3. Owner key: This is the most powerful key and must be used only when necessary. It can change any key of an account, including even the owner key. It is used to prove ownership during account recovery. It is meant to be stored offline.

  4. Memo key: This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when doing transactions. A memo can be encrypted by using # sign before the memo.

Question 3: How do you plan to keep your master password?

I'm aware that there is no means of recovering an account if the master password is lost. So, I will keep my password somewhere secure. I'll also have an offline copy of it in case of a hard drive failure or any other unfortunate incident.

Question 4: Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem account?

Yes, I do. The guidelines are given below:

Step 1: login to your steemit account and click on "wallet".

Step 2: Now, click on a drop-down arrow just beside "STEEM" and a list of four options will be displayed.
