In this article, I will be discussing understanding curation and community in our beloved steemit platform. I will answer some questions below so we can better understand it all.

Do you understand how voting and curation work in steemit?

Voting is when a user on the steemit platform sees a post they like or dislike and decides to upvote or downvote on the post.

When a user upvotes a post, reward is drawn from the reward pool and given to the user whose post was upvoted, 50 percent of this reward is then given to the user who distributed the reward.

The reward varies from user to user depending on the amount of steem power the one who is voting has in his possession, so when a user with little steem power upvotes on a post, their vote might be too weak to give a reward to the author of the post.

When a user downvotes a on a post, the reward of that post is reduced so the one downvoting does not get any reward.

The image below is an example of a vote that was upvoted and rewarded.

Curation is when a steemit user with a very high voting power upvotes on a post and the author of the post is rewarded with significant amount of steem dollars(SBD).
These users are called curators on steemit, some example of curators I have come across are;

Just like I stated above curators also get 50 percent of the reward that is awarded to the author of the post they upvoted on.

What happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes marks after posting?

As I stated earlier, when a curator upvotes on a post 50 percent of the rewards received goes to the curator while the other 50 percent goes to the author of the post but there is also a catch for users curating, which is when a curator votes before the five minute mark a certain percentage of the rewards is deducted and what remain is given to the curator.
So the reward a curator receives is based on the time they vote the post which is with in or 5 minutes after the post was posted. I will show you how a curator receives reward based on the time they on a post.

A curator receives 100 percent of their reward when they upvote 5 minutes or more after posting .
They receive nothing when they upvote at the moment of posting.

If they upvote a minute after posting they receive 20% while the remaining 80% stays in the reward pool.

If they upvote 2 minutes after posting they receive 40% while the remaining 60% stays in the reward pool.

If they upvote 3 minute after posting they receive 60% while the remaining 40% stays in the reward pool.

If they upvote 4 minute after posting they receive 80% while the remaining 20% stays in the reward pool.

Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?
The first community I joined is the Newcomers' Community, which help guide me on how steemit works and how to do all my achievement tasks.

I have also joined CampusConnect which is a fun space for students in umversity as we get to discuss on topics related to our various campuses.

I will also join Steem Schools because they discuss about business and being more productive.
