in Newcomers' Community2 years ago

Good day to great minds here at steemit. I @gidsbrown I'm glad to be here once more, seeing my achievement2 verified successful I'm filled high enthusiasm to carry out this next achievement task which is my achievement3 which is "CONTENT ETIQUETTE".
The main aim and purpose of this content is to help and make people here on steemit family to be inspired and creative thinkers and explore the power of their minds by being resourceful by making their researchs and making contents from their point of view and not stealing someone else's work which is a punishable act called plagiarism, which generally is prohibited in an organisation without a clear citation of the author of such material or information.

I hope to have your indulgence as I define the the term "CONTENT ETIQUETTE"

Content etiquette can be defined as a laying of emphases which guides someone on how to post ideas, contents, materials and information on steemit.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is act of using somebody else's ideas, work, words, contents, research or other things or materials as yours without giving credit to the source or the author.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

There are different types of plagiarism which I'll try to explain to the best of my knowledge.

  1. DIRECT PLAGIARISM
Direct plagiarism, also known as verbatim or copy-paste plagiarism, is an intentional and unethical form of stealing content. As the name suggests, the writing is stolen word for word and pasted into the new piece. The author then tries to pass off the content as their own. A word or two might be changed, but this type of plagiarism is too blatant to be considered paraphrasing.

  2. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
With this type of plagiarism, the work of someone else is simply paraphrased without proper citation. It’s often difficult to detect because the plagiarized material is interwoven with many different sources, including the writer’s own ideas and perspective.

3.SELF PLAGIARISM
Self plagiarism also known as auto-plagiarism, self-plagiarism happens when you copy your own writing, whether intentional or not. Often the person in a self-plagiarism incident is summarizing or repurposing their own work instead of writing a whole new piece from scratch on the same topic.

  1. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism doesn’t always happen on purpose. It’s still considered plagiarism when someone copies another’s writing without citing their source, improperly cites the source or leaves out quotation marks on accident. Just because the omission or incorrect citation was accidental doesn’t mean plagiarism hasn’t been committed. This is why it’s important to check any work and when in doubt, give your source credit.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

There are certain ways to avoid plagiarism which i will identify below.

1- Direct citations of contents from the source should be noted.

3 - A clear research is necessary to be carried out on information you are about to embark on to avoid plagiarism.
4 - make sure you use plagiarism check app to cross check your work so as to avoid plagiarism.

AN EXAMPLE OF A WELL CITED TEXT

"Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them." Excerpts from Think and grow rich by Napoleon hill

CONCLUSION

In conclusion I have carefully read and understood the etiquette on STEEMIT and will sincerely follow it. Thank you.
