What Are Steemit Keys?

These are password or unique keys that allow the owner to perform certain task or functions on his STEEMIT account. These keys like every other Password are personal and not to be shared with anyone because any second or third party access to these keys could cause the compromise or vandalisation of your account. So to keep your account safe one must make sure that his keys are stored in a safe place that can easily be retrieved. This is because if one loses his keys, that person has automatically lost his access to his Steemit account.

DIFFERENT KEY TYPES AND THEIR FUNCTION(S)

The Master Key
The master password is the password given to you during your signing up which should be kept safe because it can be used to derive all keys for your account, including the owner key.

The Owner Key
The owner key is only meant for use when necessary. It is the most powerful key as it can change any key of an account. Its main function is for the recovery of a compromised account.

The Active Key
The active key is used for transferring funds, power up/down transaction, converting steem dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and placing a market order.

The Posting key
The posting key is what allows accounts users to post, comment, edit, vote, resteem and follow or mute other accounts. it is also adviceable for users to login steemit everyday with their posting key.

The Memo key
This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds. In order to encrypt a memo, use the pound/# sign before it.

Difference between Master key and owner key
One may be confused about the function of this two keys. The master password is used in deriving all other keys through your wallet when you have lost your keys but can still access your master password and will be retrieved from your safe storage place while the owner key is used solely when your account has been compromised.

These keys are all important so it is a must that you keep all these keys safe and well because you cannot recover your account if these keys are lost. Also, you are warned never to allow any third party to access your account or any of your private keys.

I have successfully retrieved all my private keys.
I stored my private keys on a hard drive and also backed it up via my email.
I also on a hard copy of my private keys

I have also Learnt about how to perform a few actions on my wallet. I will discuss them below

HOW TO TRANSFER STEEM TO ANOTHER USER

1. Login to your wallet

1. Click on the drop button beside your steem balance , there will be options.
2. Click on transfer.
3. Then a new window will be open, in the new window enter the username you want to send the steem to and the amount of steem you want to send.
4. Write the memo though optional.

Click on the next button. A confirmation page will open showing that the token has been transferred successfully

HOW TO POWER UP STEEM

1. enter your steem wallet

1. Click on the drop-down box, then select power up

1. The system will request how much steem you want to power up.

2. Then from the steem balance which will be visible on your screen, select the amount of steem you want to power up, then click on the power up button.

After some seconds a confirmation message will appear in your wallet indicating that your steem power has increased

IN SUMMARY,
With all of this information you can see that our steem private keys are very important once lost cannot be recovered ever. So ensure to protect your keys for the safety of your steem account .
