First of all we are gonna be looking at what plagiarism is.
According to google, Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as his or her own.
Secondly the merriam webster online dictionary defined plagiarism as to steal or pass off ( the ideas or words of another) as one's own,
*To use anothers production without crediting the source,
*To present as new and original an idea derived from an existing source.in other words plagiarism is an act of fraud ,it in volves both stealing elses work and lying about it afterwards,
*Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

*Direct plagiarism
Direct plagiarism is the word for word transcription of a section of someones else's work ,without attribution and quotation marks.

*Accidental plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources or misqoutes their sources ,or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words ,groups of words or sentence structure without attribution.

*Self plagiarism
This occurs when a student submits his or her own previous works or mixes parts of previous work without permission from all professors involved.

CONSEQUENCIES OF PLAGIARISM

Destroys professional reputation ; a professional business person ,politician or public figure may find that the damage from plagiarism follows them for their entire career, not only will they be fired but they will find it difficult to obtain another respectable job.
2)Destroys academic reputation
Once scared with plagiarism allegations ,an academic carreer can be ruined e.g publishing is an integral part of a prestigious academic carreer ,to loose the ability to publish most likely means the end of an academic position and a destroyed reputation.

3)Legal repercussions
The legal repercussion of plagiarism can be quite serious ,copyright laws are absolutev, one cannot use another persons material withouth citation and reference ,as a proffessional writer, plagiarize is a serious ethical and legal issue ,because an author has the right to sue a plagiarist.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

Keep track of the sources you consult in your research
Paraphase or quote from your sourcess and add your own ideas
Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list
Use a plagiarism cheker before you submit.
