Do you understand how voting and curation work in Steemit?

Yes, I do. Allow me to describe it. On Twitter for example, if you see a tweet you like, then you hit the “like” button and like the tweet. On Steemit, the action of “liking” a post is done by voting, which is also called curation. What makes Steemit better than regular social media in my opinion is that creators of quality content get rewarded in Steem blockchain coins. This concept is called Proof of Brain.
Additionally, there is a reward “reservoir” or “bank” on the Steem blockchain. It is from this reservoir that rewards are given to users. When a user votes on another users post, the rewards for a particular post are obtained from this reward pool and shared 50/50 by the author and the curator (Curators are people that vote on posts). The author’s compensation is called “Author rewards”. The curators share is called ”Curation rewards”.

So that is, 50% of the total rewards is Curation rewards and the other 50% is Author rewards.

Votes from users with higher Steem power carry more weight and attract higher rewards for an author.
Lastly, there are two types of votes on Steemit: upvotes and downvotes.
Upvotes are basically “liking” the post and downvotes mean you dislike or disapprove of the post. Upvotes give rewards to authors, downvotes do not. Downvotes from users with a higher reputation rank than you can cause your reputation rank to reduce but downvotes from those with a lower reputation rank than you will not have an effect on your reputation.

What happens if you vote a post before the 5 minute mark after it was posted?

If a curator upvotes a post before exactly 5 minutes after it was made, then they will not receive 100% of the curation rewards for that post. This is based on the system which the blockchain uses to reward curators;
Voting immediately after the post is made brings no curation rewards
Voting 1 minute after the post is made will fetch 20% of the total reward for curation.
Voting 2 minutes after a post is made will fetch only 40% of the Curation rewards.
Voting 3 minutes afterwards will bring 60% of the curation rewards.
Voting 4 minutes after fetches 80% of the rewards.
Voting 5 minutes after will bring 100% curation rewards
There is a direct proportion between the time after a post is made and percentage of curation rewards that a curator will receive.

Who would you vote for Steem witness and why?

Steem blockchain uses a consensus system to elect individuals who will oversee the creation of blocks and act as “witnesses”, so to speak. This system is called Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) which simply means the community selects witnesses manually by voting for who they wish to be a witness. Witnesses are rewarded with Steem power for each block they create.

Which community will you join in Steemit and why?

I would love to join Steem Sports because I love to play and watch sports so you would expect that I would identify with any sports community on Steemit. I would also love to join @Campusconnectng so that I can network with other students in my country and build connections.
