Curation

As any other social media network, we can vote and "like" posts regarding their content. This posts will be judged by the quality of their content and the user who published them will be rewarded. There's a fixed reward pool in Steemit and the distribution of these rewards will depend on the amount of Steem Power that you have at the moment of voting a post. This is known as curation.

Here we can see: the up and down vote, how many rewards the post received and the amounts of votes and comments the post has. The rewards of a post will be distributed 50% for authors and 50% for curators.

The amount of Steem power that you have is important, but so is your voting mana. You have your 100% voting mana and every time you vote, it reduces up to 2%, if you give it 100% of your voting strength; also, the amount of rewards you receive for curating will be related to the amount of voting power that you gave. this will be important Don't worry about this, since your voting mana can recharge up to 20% per day!

Once you reach 500 Steem Power, you'll see a bar at the moment of voting, in which you'll decide how much voting power you're willing to give it. New users will give it automatically 100% vote. You can also downvote, but you won't get any rewards for doing it.

If you're willing to check your voting mana, you can check in Steemworld.org or Steemd.com. There's a graph in which it'll show you the remaining mana you have.

As I've said, 50% of the rewards go to curators. But still: if you cast your vote at the moment of posting, 100% of the curation rewards will remain in the pool. If you vote at 1 minute, you'll only receive 20% of the curation reward. And so on, you'll get 100% of the curation rewards only if you vote after 5 minutes the post has been published!

Witnesses

A new block is created every 3 seconds in Steemit, this will be added to the blockchain and there are a couple of users that have been selected to create them. They're known as witnesses (or "miners", in other blockchains). They're in charge of preventing attacks from hackers and to run the Steem blockchain. Us, as users, can vote for up to 30 witnesses.

You can cast your vote here and also, you can find the different posts that each witness has published to know more about them and how they're planning to help Steemit out.

Personally, I have voted for @justyy and @steemchiller. I didn't have time to read about the other witnesses yet, but I think they've done a great job developing tools such as Steemyy.com and SteemWorld.org, which are great for everyone. Specially for newbies like me, that we're trying to understand all this new world and it seems kind of messy sometimes! Still, I'll try to get to know more about the other witnesses to support them!

Communities

This is the first thing I started browing when I joined Steemit. I didn't understand much, but it was nice to see that there's something for everyone and that everyone can join whatever they feel like!

These are the ones that I have joined so far:

  • Freewriters: Great to encourage your creative writing skills! I wish it was more active, though.
  • WORLD OF XPILAR: Great content, specially the ones that professional and amateur photographers post
  • APPICS: Love to see pictures!
  • GEMS: Really creative content :)
  • Newcomers' Community: Love welcoming people and how warm this community is!
  • Italy: Nice to keep in touch with my family's culture!
  • Comunidad Latina: Us latinos have to stick together! Haha, I love meeting people from my same culture! :)
  • TravelFeed: Great to know more about places I wish to visit someday!
  • Steemit Explained: Great for newbies!!
  • Spanish City: 'Cause I can't get enough of Spanish speaking haha

So this was the fulfillment of my last achievement of this program!
Thank you @cryptokannon for creating this posts to help us, newbies, to understand everything that we need about Steemit! It has been a huge help for me and it has also helped me get to know some interesting users that now I follow and have regular interaction with! Also, thank you @yohan2on for the huge effort you're making welcoming people and guiding them, it's nice to see how engaged you're with Steem! :)
