Below is my achievement 3.

Plagiarism is a plague that has eaten deep into society. We find cases of it in academic, social media platforms and others. Well before we will go deeper into the issue of plagiarism, we need to understand what it is all about.

Plagiarism has to do with representing another author's ideas, thoughts, research work as one's own. Plagiarism at times can be seen as outright stealing.

Let's check out few types of plagiarism. Although there are several types of plagiarism, I will emphasize only three types.

Direct plagiarism

This type of plagiarism has to do with coping with an author's ideas or work directly or word to word.

For instance, suppose Mrs Joy collect an article from a website online like Wikipedia and wrote it down word for word without source or citation.

Accidental plagiarism

Although it is said that plagiarism is plagiarism whether intentional or not, sometimes it can happen by accident. In accidental plagiarism, a person unintentionally copies another person's work either by forgetting to source or by paraphrasing.

For instance, while creating a post on the steemit platform, Miss F can forget to source because of the time factor. It's become accidental plagiarism.

Self-plagiarism

I know most people will be wondering how can there be self-plagiarism.
Self-plagiarism has to do with when an author takes ideas or words to words from his previous post without referencing or paraphrasing.

For instance, if I take ideas from my previous post words to words without changing anything or referencing it is said to be Self-plagiarism.

Ways of Avoiding plagiarism

There are several ways of avoiding but I will be emphasizing three ways

paraphrasing

Paraphrasing has to do with using other ideas or giving a different meaning to words. In the case of the instance cited in self-plagiarism, you can paraphrase the words instead of writing them word for word

Quotation

It can be used as an alternative to paraphrasing. Quotation as the name implies is a means of taking content from a source by referencing the author.
For instance

You want to ride on life, know who you serve, know your strength, your weaknesses, your fears and say No to competition - Chibueze Kpalukwu

Citation

In cases where you take an article from the internet or text, you cite the source or webpage where you got the article.
In the instances cited above in accidental plagiarism, in the case of Mrs Joy, the citation will be a perfect remedy.
