in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

It's quite tough to determine if you're a good or lousy writer, or whether you possess the attributes of a writer.
However, you may unquestionably claim the term "Author" if you follow the same behaviors as previous great authors.
I've learnt a lot over the course of my four years in this field.

Though I am knowledgeable about writing, I cannot claim to be an expert in the field.

I've learnt a great deal from successful authors, and there are a few characteristics that distinguish good writers from failed ones.

There are some traits of a competent writer that are based on common experience.

For them, it is their daily routines that distinguish them from other writers.

These characteristics are vital for an excellent writer because they demonstrate a certain level of passion and openness–both of which are required to create outstanding writing.

Writer's Characteristics

Certain attributes of a good writer are universal, regardless of the niche in which they write.

And even if you possess these characteristics, you will fully comprehend the sentence "What makes a good writer?"

A successful writer must possess the following characteristics:

Discipline 1

Writers possess an unmatched ability to sustain discipline.

This is because they are constantly evaluating, writing, and rewriting the same piece of information.

And this demands much self-discipline.

As normal individuals may get irritable.

Therefore, if you are disciplined, you have one of the attributes necessary to be a great writer.

  1. Enthusiastic Reader

A successful writer is a voracious reader.

All readings serve to encourage a writer to write.

They always read with a more contemplative intent. They make an attempt to comprehend the author's narrative and attitude as they write.

It enables children to grasp the fundamentals of writing.

Therefore, if you are an avid reader, you may work your way up to become a wonderful writer.

  1. Imaginative Experimentation

Consider an author such as J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), who created an incredible fiction work.

The capacity to produce something extraordinary is what separates great authors from bad writers.

The reason Harry Potter became a worldwide phenomenon is because the author thought beyond the box.

These were not real locations. With her imagination, she constructed a whole planet.

That is why great writers are always thinking beyond the box.

This is what distinguishes their narratives from the others.

  1. Lack of Sleep

The majority of the authors were exhausted from lack of sleep.

Several of them were able to write nonstop for 1-2 days.

Though you should get enough sleep, you cannot make a masterpiece by remaining up.

However, there are instances when authors get so absorbed in their work that they lose track of time, even sleep.

And for some authors, the evenings are ideal for writing.

As a result, they are perpetually sleep deprived.

  1. Forbearance

As a writer, you'll need a great deal of patience.

Before a writer gets published for the first time, he or she must endure a great deal of rejection.

J.K. Rowling's proposal to publish the Harry Potter series was denied several times. However, she has not given up hope. She has patience and unwavering trust in her task.

Apart from that, there will be times when you have nothing new to contribute to your writing. Or days when you realize the end is a long way off and the only thing standing in your way is white space.

And only when you have patience will you be able to complete your book.

This is how a writer competes in today's world.

  1. Multi-Skilled

Multi-talented is the most prevalent trait of a writer since they are also involved in book promotion, editing, and attending book launches.

A writer with extensive understanding of both traditional book promotion and marketing and social media promotion and marketing.

A human figure's voice creates more sales than a brand's voice, which is constantly boring and relentless in its pursuit of sales.

And today, writers are required to do live broadcasts on Facebook and Instagram in order to attract a larger audience.

They are presently fast expanding and producing revenue independently of book publishing firms.

They may now sell their books independently.

This has resulted in the emergence of self-published writers.

Additionally, self-published authors and writers have a broader range of abilities than those who depend only on formal publication.

  1. Writers Are Capable of Clearly Expressing Their Ideas

Everything makes sense with effective writing, and readers are not bewildered or forced to reread paragraphs to figure out what's going on.

Concentrated writing adheres to the storyline or central concept without veering off on too many tangents, and a skilled writer does this.

They possess the ability to transport you to an imagined location and present you with a full description of that location. And the critical point is that you comprehend it. Perceive it.

A writer is adept at connecting the dots.

This is one of the most remarkable qualities a writer has.

  1. Detail-Oriented

A writer is able to communicate any concept succinctly because they pay attention to every detail.

This attention to detail not only makes them excellent editors capable of spotting even the tiniest grammatical fault during a read-through, but it also lends a unique flavor to their work.

No descriptive detail is overlooked.

  1. Receptive To New Experiences And Ideas

Writers are receptive to new ideas and adjustments because they help them to enhance their work, even if they do so at the expense of their ego.

However, being receptive to new things and ideas may be critical when they come from readers, reviews, and comments, editing staffs, and proofreaders, among others.

They are the ones who can enhance the manuscript's quality and increase its saleability.

Conclusion

These are only a few of the traits of a writer, and each writer has at least some of them.

It is not necessary to have the same set of features in order to call oneself a Writer.

However, there are some qualities that you should surely possess, like as imagination, patience, and an eye for detail, since these are traits shared by almost any writer you can think of.
