Achievement 2 @emmawalt Task : Basic Security on Steem
Hello! This is my achievement 2 task on Steemit, talking about basic security on Steem.
Also I had fun making some drawings to use in this post.
Retrieve all your keys
The first thing to do is keep safe your keys downloading the pdf.
Also I did copies to save them in other devices.
Learn key functions and restrictions
Posting Key. This is the key that you will use more often. It is necessary to log in on Steemit and interact with the platform, when you post, write a comment, vote, follow other people account, resteem other's posts.
Active Key. This is the key you need to make operations on your wallet. For example, to power up your Steem, make transactions in the market. Also is needed to change information on your profile like profile picture and description.
Owner key. This is the key you need to change other keys, so it is very important.
Master password. Is a powerful password that you need to recovery your account if something goes wrong. Also can be used to generate other keys.
Memo key. You need this key to encrypting or decrypting memos when you transfer your funds.
Keep your master password safe
As I do for other passwords and important information, I keep a USB pen drive in a safe place in my room. I use this drive just for copy or update this kind of information and only for this purpose, so it is rarely exposed to viruses or accidental overwriting.
If you prefer, you can print your pdf, cause there are QR Codes to copy your keys with your smartphone. Then keep the sheet in a safe place.
Other way to keep your master password safe, like other keys, is avoid to insert it in unknown websites and be careful to follow other links asking for your information. So, be sure you are communicating with Steemit platform or authorized websites.
Lear how to use your Steemit wallet
Steemit wallet is where you have control of your funds. It is mostly public, so everybody can see amounts and transfers with timeschedules. Of course only the owner of the keys can do operations into the wallet.
Use your wallet to claim your rewards. You don't need keys to do it, just click on Redeem your rewards. Then you will see that your rewards are in the wallet.
Learn how to power up your STEEM
Now you can use your Steem in different ways:
1 - You can transfer Steem to savings, so you can withdraw after 3 days.
2 - You can power up Steems, so to have more power in curation and upvote.
3 - You can transfer Steems to other people
At first the amount of Steem is very little so the best thing to do is Power up. Powering up will give you more chances to build your presence in Steemit community because your upvotes will count more and you share your benefits with the community. You will have chances to withdraw a part of your Steem later when the total amount will increase.
So we go to select Power up from the menu.
A window opens asking for amount of Steem to power up. I choose to power up the whole amount so I click to the amount and then click Power up.
Then you need to confirm the transfer and, if you want you can add a memo. Click OK.
Then you need to insert Active key in the last window and click Power up.
Learn to transfer your steem token to another user account
When you want to trasfer Steem token to other people, just go to the wallet and select Transfer from the menu.
A window opens where you will insert the person's username and the amount of Steem you want to transfer. If you want you can write a memo. Then click Next.
A last window will open asking for your Active Key.
I think that's all for now, thanks for reading!
