WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism means to take or pass off someone else's work and use it in such a way that is as if that work is yours, without making references or application to it. Steemians are warned to astray from such act of plagiarizing and be original in their works. Therefore we are encouraged to at least give citation or provide the source of whatever work which isn't originally yours.

Most individual may be of the notion that plagiarism isn't that much of a bad idea and may see nothing wrong with it as it may save them stress. This is a very wrong notion as here are some reasons

WHY PLAGIARISM IS DANGEROUS

1.Plagiarism Is Stealing: Plagiarism is a crime, thereby stealing one's opinions and thoughts on a matter and pretending like it's yours is categorise as intellectual theft.

2.It Could Ruin Your Reputation: an individual known for plagiarizing would tend a nasty name, and most sometimes your work could also be of little value thanks to the reputation you've set for yourself.

3.It Decreases Number Of Reviews: an individual who engage in plagiarizing other peoples work would definitely would definitely be avoided and his works also wouldn't be reviewed thanks to the fear of inauthentic.

4.It Brings Intense Problems: People who engage in plagiarism rarely go unpunished. These punishments or consequences also aren't light as they could cause severe problems for offenders.

From the statement above, plagiarism is unacceptable. In order to be on the safe side, I advise we totally abstain from it as it will do more good than harm.

HOW CAN WE AVOID PLAGIARISM

Below are some ways we can avoid plagiarism.

1.Rephrase Your Contents To Your Own Always: whatever work you opt to use as a guide, it's important to know it, don't copy and paste but instead rephrase it to your own words to avoid intellectual theft and plagiarizing.

2.Make Use Of Quotations: Quotations should be used whenever you are taking texts from another person's work, for indication purposes.

3.Remember To Cite Your Sources And Keep Records Of The Sources You Refer To: know what should be cited. Whatever would be used in your work, ie. Pictures. Where unsure, you can use reference, When using a person's work, even if it's a line you want to make use of from the original work, knowing that you are using someone else's work, you use quotation marks ("") at the beginning and end of the copied sentence. That way you're passing an information to the reader that you simply have borrowed this line and not plagiarized.
An example "Life Is Just A Dream "

As for citation goes down to showing the source to the reader, that is, citing the source of where your material is from. On the Steemit platform from what I've noticed so far this is how we properly site someone's work. For example

As you can see this area of my writing is special. This is how to cite a writing on the platform. Incase you want to know how I did it, it is as easy as putting a (>) greater than sign at the beginning end of the sentence for it to be cited.

When using images that aren't originally yours you ought to also name the sourced by adding the link to the image source in your post. Like this

"Plagiarism amongst others may be a bad act which in my opinion display not only dishonesty but stealing and unprofessionalism in whatever work you're doing."

Remarks

"I have read and learned the steemit etiquette on the steemit community and will do my best to embrace them"
