                                                                                                   WHAT IS PLAGIARSM

Well, in my own word and from what i understand, plagiarism simply means intellectual theft. Other words that can be used are piracy and copyright. They all mean the same thing which is the act of using someone else's work for your own gain without giving reference to the original author or getting approval. According to the university of oxford, plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or unintentional. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.

Now speaking of plagiarism, i have been a victim of this offense too few months back when i joined steemit. As of then i thought i was smart i tried to play the smart game and was caught, warned and asked to participate in the achievement3 so i could get more enlightened about content etiquette. We now live in a world of internet where everyone wants to share information but we must also remember to give credit to whom its due. This brings me down to explaining the kinds of plagiarism we have. They are;

  1. Direct Plagiarism

"Direct plagiarism is the word-for-word transcription of a section of someone else’s work, without attribution and without quotation marks.." <a href= The deliberate plagiarism of someone else's work is unethical, academically dishonest, and grounds for disciplinary actions, including expulsion.

  1. Self Plagiarism
    This is you resubmitting your previous work. Of course its your work and you are the author but when a student or someone submits his or her own previous work, or mixes parts of previous works he or she is plagiarising his or herself and its an offense. Self-plagiarism also applies to submitting the same piece of work for assignments in different classes without previous permission from both professors.

  2. Mosaic Plagiarism
    This type of plagiarism involves using phrases from a source without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author’s language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original.

  3. Accidental Plagiarism
    Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes their sources, or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words, groups of words, and/or sentence structure without attribution.

Now in steemit we promote original contents and plagiarism is a very big offense we can't tolerate but as we all know, in life, one does not know everything and there's always a need for more research so as to learn more and in this bid, here are some ways to prevent plagiarism.
According to scribber.com through the link https://www.scribbr.com/plagiarism/how-to-avoid-plagiarism/, you have to follow these four steps to ensure your paper is free from plagiarism:
  1. Keep track of the sources you consult in your research.
  2. Paraphrase or quote from your sources (and add your own ideas).
  3. Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.
  4. Use a plagiarism checker before you submit.

This is my contribution to the achievement3 and yes "I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them"
