We should acknowledge others work or ideas applies not only to text, but also to the media, such as computer codes, illustrations, graphs etc it applies equally to published text and data drawn from books and jounals, and to unpublished text and data, whether from lectures, theses or other students essays. You must also attribute text, data, or other resources downloaded from websites.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  • Use a plagiarism checker before you submit.
  • Paraphrase or quote from your sources and add your own ideas.
  • Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.
  • Understand good paraphrasing.
  • Don't procrastinate with your research and assignments. Good research takes time.

HOW IS PLAGIARISM DETECTED?

  • If the tone or style of the text changes between passages, or if they’re familiar with the source that’s been plagiarized.
