Theft is not only when a robber breaks into a shop, mall, bank etc to steal, plagiarism is also theft. It is an intellectual theft. When someone use another author(s) or writer(s) idea or work without properly citing or referencing the original author. The former use the idea or work as though it is his/her original work. Young Researchers nowadays work on projects already built and established by other researchers, this is a welcome idea as far as proper reference and citation is done. Plagiarism is an offence and is punishable. Sometimes plagiarism maybe intention or not, whichever case, the offender(s) must be punished.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the process or practice of using another person’s ideas or work and pretending that it is your own. source.

Global plagiarism

Global plagiarism occurs when you take an entire piece and pass it off as your own work. A student buying a paper someone else wrote or someone copying and pasting an article they found online and calling it theirs can both be examples. Source

Verbatim Plagiarism

Direct plagiarism also known as verbatim or copy-paste plagiarism, is an intentional and unethical form of stealing content. As the name suggests, the writing is stolen word for word and pasted into the new piece. The author then tries to pass off the content as their own. A word or two might be changed, but this type of plagiarism is too blatant to be considered paraphrasing. Source. When quoting author(s) verbatim, it must be in quotation marks.

Paraphrasing plagiarism

Paraphrasing, or incremental plagiarism, is the most common type of plagiarism. It’s similar to the mosaic plagiarism. However, the difference is that the copied work isn’t mixed in with new concepts and research. When you paraphrase the original idea in your own words, the borrowed material stays the same throughout the new piece. Source

This is the most common type of plagiarism. Most writers re-write already existing work or idea using different words or synonyms of the words.

Patchwork Plagiarism

Patchwork plagiarism is plagiarism parts of different sources and stitching them together into a new work.

Self-Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism also known as auto-plagiarism is recycling your own previous work.

Doing this achievement post 2 task, I have come to know different forms of plagiarism and as a writer and a steemian I should shun plagiarism of all forms.
