WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
Plagiarism is simply the representation of another's language, thoughts, expression and ideas as ones' own original work.
It can also be described as taking references or the whole work from an original source without acknowledging or giving credit to the main source. Hence, plagiarism amounts to intellectual theft and it is a punishable offence to completely lift another's work without acknowledging the author.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
I will be discussing the very common types of plagiarism which include but not limited to:

  1. Direct plagiarism
  2. Mosaic plagiarism
  3. Self plagiarism
  4. Accidental plagiarism.

DIRECT PLAGIARISM: This is the word-for-word cloning of a section of one's work without acknowledgement or quotation mark.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM: This occurs when one lifts a phrase from an author while having the original meaning of that expression without making reference to the main source. This comes under paraphrase and often amounts to academic dishonesty.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM: This type of plagiarism occurs when a person meglects to cite their sources or also misquotes their sources.

SELF PLAGIARISM: This type of plagiarism mostly occurs in the educational section. It occurs when a student duplicates his or her own work and uses it for different lecturers' project without their permission.

  1. Keep track of sources you consult in your research

  2. Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list
  3. Use a plagiarism checker before submitting
  4. After adding your own ideas, paraphrase or quote from your sources.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM

  1. Destroys academic and professional reputation
  2. Heavy monetary fines can be paid as punishment
  3. It encourages sloopy research
  4. It harms educational establishments.

CONCLUSION
The offence of plagiarism is highly prohibited in the business steemit and thus must be overly avoided.
