Achievement 2 by @christopher-eno: Basic Security on Steem
Hello faves! I hope you all are doing exceedingly great. Today we would be exploring the basic safety tips on steem, which serve as achievement 2 in the newcomers community.
Before embarking on this task we would like to define the key terms which are; SECURITY and STEEM.
SECURITY: (uncountable) the condition of notbeing threatened, especially physically, psychologically, emotionally, or financially
(countable) something that secures.an organization or department responsible for providing security by enforcing laws, rules, and regulations as well as maintaining order( according to oxford dictionary)
STEEM: Steemit is a blockchain-based blogging and social media website. Users can gain a cryptocurrency, STEEM, for publishing and curating content. The company is owned by Steemit Inc., a privately held company based in New York City and a headquarters in Virginia. Wikipedia
It is pertinent for steemit to take all possible measures to protect our account. To keep our steemit account from being vulnerable to hackers, cybercrime, we must protect our master password/keys because it lies in our hands.
Some questions regarding steemit are;
*Have you retrieve all your keys on Steemit?
*Do you know each of these key function and restriction?
*How do you plan to keep your master password?
*Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
*Do you know how to power up your steem?
We are going to answer this question as listed above.
Have you retrieved all your keys on Steemit?
Yes, i have retrieved all my keys to wps files in my device which confirmed that i have downloaded and saved the steemit keys, which also gives me easy access to them.
Do you know each of these key function and restrictions?
Yes i do know the function of all the keys and rstrictions. At this juncture, we are going to be exploring their functions and restriction ; Active Key, Owner key, Memo key and Posting key.
TRON KEY
Tron key is made up of public and private key. Tron public key is used for transfers. The public is the address you send the tokens to. The private key has the highest authority on your tron account. It is used for signing transactions of trons, such as transferring tokens, freezing and voting.
Posting Key: This keys are used for social networking operations such as posting, commenting, voting, streaming, follow or unfollow others on steemit account. This key has restricted permissions and cannot be used for monetary transactions. Keep this key save.
Memo key: If you wish to decrypt a private communication you have gotten, you need to make use of the key with minimal request. Memo key is exceptional. The Memo Key can only encrypt and decrypt private messages received through the blockchain. Although this could become a powerful feature in the future, it is only sometimes used.
Active Key: This key is used for sensitive work such as; power up/ down transaction, fund transfer, profile detail etc.You may be required to authenticate using your Active key while conducting a wallet-related operation. Anyone with access to this key can steal your tokens, so you should only enter your Active Key into apps you trust.
Owner Key: The difference between master password and owner key is that, master password produces all other keys including the owner key. The private owner key is recognized as the most powerful in steemit. For that purpose it should be kept secret at all times, as anyone with access to this key can make changes to the account, including transferring funds and changing account settings.
How do you plan to keep your master password?
This question stares us at our faces regarding how we plan to keep our master password from being accessible by others without your permission, or hacked. For me, i can save in my laptop, Google drive and disk.
Do you know how to transfer your Steem token to another steem user account?
Yes i do. To transfer Steem or Steem Power (SP) on the Steemit platform, you will need to use the Steemit wallet.
Go to your profile and then go to the Steemit wallet by clicking on the "Wallet". Click on the "STEEM" tab "Transfer" button; click it.
Then enter the username or account name of the person you want to send the Steem or SP to, put the amount of Steem or SP you want to send.
Click the "Next" button to initiate the transfer.
You will be prompted to enter either of the keys; owner key or active key.
Do you know how to power up your Steem?
"Powering Up"is one way to add Steem Power to your account. This is a quick way to explaining how to increase power after you have received your reward;
Go to your wallet
Find your steem dollars and click the little triangle next to your steem dollars to open the menu
Then click market
Next is the "BUY STEEM" section enter the amount of steem dollars you want to exchange for steem. Once you have entered it click on "Buy Steem".
You will be asked to put password which will required either the MASTER PASSWORD, OWNER KEY or ACTIVE KEY
Afterward, you will be directed back to the market, after few seconds a notification will popup with a write-up "order placed". Return to your wallet once the "order placed " is completed you will see the balance of steem appear, then click the little triangle to power up.I'm grateful to God for making this possible. putting this together wasn't easy as a newbie doing it all alone for the first time but I'm impressed with the outcome and also gratitude goes to @cryptokannon and all other admins and moderators for their relentless efforts towards our growth in the newcomers community.
