As a newcomer on steemit, you will be provided with different keys which would you use to perform different tasks and transactions on steemit. These keys are special, so it is required that you keep them safe because without them you won't be able to access anything on steemit. Below are the different keys and their functions.

POSTING KEY

This is used for logging in so as to perform different actions like posting, voting on posts, etc.

PRIVATE MEMO KEY

This is simply used for decryption of your private transfer memos.

PRIVATE OWNER KEY

This is used to reset all other keys, if your steemit account is compromised this key can be used to recover the account within thirty days.

PRIVATE ACTIVE KEY

This is used to perform actions like powering up of steem, transferring of tokens and basically anything related to your steemit account wallet.

PUBLIC KEYS

This is used for the encryption and verification of messages on steemit.

STEEMIT WALLET

This is where your steem tokens are stored, actions like powering up and down of steem are carried out here.

TRANSFER OF STEEM

Rewards for posts on steemit are paid in Trons and Steem into your steem wallet and these can be transferred to other people using the following steps.
Step 1: open your steem wallet
Step 2: click on the option on your steem balance
Step 3: select transfer.

POWERING UP OF STEEM

This is used to transfer steem to steem power and can be done using the following steps.
Step 1: open your steem wallet
Step 2: click on the option on the steem balance
Step 3: select power up steem.
