ACHIEVEMENT 4 BY @CHIOMZY810| TASK: APPLYING MARKDOWNS
I will gladly let out my knowledge on this particular achievement which has to do with applying markdowns. I will be discussing on an important science topic while applying my markdowns, kindly stay tighten!!
THE BASIC UNIT OF LIFE (CELL)
The cell can be defined as the structural and functional unit of life. It is actually the smallest unit that can carry out all activities if life. And I can tell Cell is a block of complex multicellular organisms.
Discovery Of Cell
The study of cell (cell biology) was first discovered by Robert Hooke (1665), who reported his work in his famous publication Micrographia. He made so many experiments and cayrtued out hypothesis to find out that the cork (of dead plant material) is composed if minute honey comb like compartments which he termed as cells.
"According to Hooke, Cell is an empty space bounded by thick walls".
Below are the list of other scientist that contributed their own ideas and hypothesis on *Cell* ;
- Jean Baptist De-lamarck(1809).
- Lorenz Oken (1805).
- Robert Brown (1831).
- Rudolph Virchow (1855).
- Louis Pasteur (1862).
Cell is not only structural but also the functional unit of living organisms. So, cell theory is a very important unifying concept.
Cell As A Unit Of Structure And Function
A cell us s unit if structure and Function in living organisms. In multicellular there is a division of labor among cells.
Different cells are specialized for different functions. The function of the organism as a whole is the result of the sum of activities and interaction of different cells and of different components of the cell.
In animals e.g
- Muscles cell contract and relax.
- Some stomach cells secrete gastric juice.
- Nerve cells transmit impulses.
- Gland cells secrete.
In plants e.g
- Xylem cell conduct water and mineral salts from soil to the aerial parts of the plants.
- Phloem cells tranlocate food.
- Sclerenchymatous cell give support to surplus food.
- Meristematic cells produce new cell for growth and development of the plant.
Features Of Cell
1.) All organisms are composed of one or more cells.
2.) All cells arise from pre-existing cells.
3.) Cell is the basic structural as well as functional unit for all organisms.
In Conclusion:
Cells perform different functions and they show great variation in shape and size.
Despite the structural and functional diversity, the plant cells as well as animal cells have a common plan of organisation.
