Background

Hello Steemians, I am here again to engage us on my Achievement-3 task on Content Etiquette. This is simply having regards for constituted authority before making lifting their materials. Content etiquette basically deals with everything surrounding Plagiarism. It was paramount @cryptokannon introduced this achievement task into the basics to help drive the agenda of sticking to original contents in Steemit community. With the help of Dairy reports, this has be largely supported for all newbies because this largely describes ones daily activities. Though there still deviations seen in other contest posts like the crypto-Academy homework where people try to cheat the reward pool by copy and pastes.

The issues of content etiquette should be well communicated to all concern just as we do in our achievement-3 Task to help guide our excesses during posting. Plagiarism may be seen as intentional, non intentional or mere recklessness during posting.

What is Plagiarism

Basically, this is the act of lifting another authors work and representation of his ideas without due diligence by referencing him or quoting our source. This can be done either through coping and pasting, careless paraphrasing or improper quoting.

When we say Plagiarism is *intentional, it simply means it was a direct act perpetuated by copying and pasting another authors text word for word or Web publishing of articles without permission. When it is Unintentional or Mosaic, it means there were elements of acknowledging the fact that there was an existing authority but failed to properly state this clearly, which maybe as a result of poor documentation of reports done, improper paraphrasing and /or improper quoting of text.

Consequences Of Plagiarism

• Organizations loose their reputation and integrity due to cases of plagiarism.
• Ethnic and academic standards are lowered due to cases of plagiarism
• Students credibility are hampered and performance dropped due to issues bothering on plagiarism
• Cases bothering on plagiarism are treated under copy right issues which may attract jail term. It is considered as felony under some countries with certain number of jail terms.

Ways to Avoid Plagiarism

• By Summarizing:
  This is a sure way of writing to avoid plagiarism. It allows you to understand an article and gives you the freewill and mind to use your own wordings and understanding in interpreting gained knowledge. Funnily, you're in a best advantage to use knowledge gained from different sources to write your personal post.

• Paraphrasing:
  This is the act of rephrasing the original authors posts and text by not directly copying their text. This helps to rework the sentence structure and pattern of the original content without necessary changing the ideas and meaning of the text. This can be strategically used when one wants to avoid over usage of quotation.

• Quoting:
  This tool helps a user to copy and paste another authors work, hence making reference to his ideas. Quoting is a useful tool as it pin points the exact line of action to be referenced to. It can be used to agree or disagree in a line of thought as published by another author. To effect the power of quoting here, use the special alphabet > before your message.
