What is the Meaning of Etiquette

Etiquette is a rule that is acceptable to guide the social behaviour of a person or group of people.
It is the customary way in which people should behave towards another. Etiquette can also be a polite way of relating with someone.
Having known and properly understood the meaning of etiquette, it is very important to also know the meaning of Plagiarism.

Meaning of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the process by which a person present another person's work as if it is originally initiated by person.
It can also mean using someone else ideas without including the source or citing the reference.

It is not acceptable to copy someone else work without recognising the original initiator of the work; whether this is done purposefully or accidentally, it can cause serious problem on the victim.
When we are talking about Plagiarism, it doesn't mean that you can't make use of other people's ideas. But on the contrary, using people ideas are very important because it is a sure way and foundation of learning.

Different Forms of Plagiarism

There are different types of Plagiarism which include but not limited to 1the following:

  • Direct plagiarism
  • Indirect plagiarism
  • Personal plagiarism
  • Universal plagiarism

Direct Plagiarism

Direct plagiarism is a type of plagiarism in which a writer or researcher copies exactly someone's work and paste it as if it is his own work.
Here the researcher doesn't quote the author or the initiator of the work where it was copied from.

Indirect Plagiarism

This is a type of plagiarism which involves the researcher not copying from a source but sought his/her ideas from different sources and organise them as though it is his work.
In other words, indirect plagiarism involves the writer copying from different sources and pasting it as a new work. Though this tends to look new or appears original but are not because they were copied. The writer doesn't site the source from which his information were gathered from.

Personal Plagiarism

Personal plagiarism is a process by which a writer reuses his past work I the present as if it was generated at that time. It is a form of recycling your work. This is a form of deception as the reader believes that the work is new and original.

Universal Plagiarism

Among all the types of plagiarism, this is the worst. Universal plagiarism is a form of plagiarism were a person copies the whole write up of someone else and paste as if it belongs to him. It is living and deceiving someone into thinking and believing that the work is original meanwhile is fake.

Consequences of Plagiarism

There are some consequences that comes with plagiarism.

Plagiarism can destroy ones reputation. Someone who is highly respected can just become and object of distrust because he plagiarized. An important person in the society maybe dragged to the mud because of plagiarism.
To avoid these, abstain from plagiarism.

It can destroy ones academic career. When a student is involve in plagiarism, it can terminate the person's academic pursuit as the student may fail in his project or might be suspended or expelled from the institution thereby pointing a full stop to your academic pursuit.

You can be Fined. As a criminal offence the person involve in plagiarism can be billed a particular amount of money to pay.

How Plagiarism Can Be Prevented

Plagiarism can be avoided in many ways and they are:

Getting your work done on time. When you carry out your assignment on time this will help you to avoid plagiarism. Some people when given a task to do always relaxes until the deadline approaches only then will they begin to hasten up in order to meet up with the deadline.
When one is in a hurry in carrying out an assignment, it makes it difficult or impossible for the person not to plagiarize because there won't be enough time to engage the brain into reasonable thinking. When there isn't such time to relax and think, the person will just end up copying and pasting in order to meet up. Doing this (plagiarism) can be avoided by giving enough time to your work before the deadline.

Proper citation. When you take or copied an idea from an author, it is expected that you cite the sources. Some people who remember to cite most times do not do it properly, so when you are citing, you should remember to do it correctly without mistakes.

Another way of avoiding plagiarism is by Restatement. By restating, it means reconstructing the words into another form which still gives the same meaning as the original content.
This is a process of changing the words without changing the meaning or the content of the sentence. While trying to restate, compose or paraphrase your sentence, you should be creative enough to input your own ideas by so doing your work will be unique and different and won't be charge for plagiarism.

Checkout for Plagiarism. You can checkout for plagiarism with a valuable online tool. And it is done by copying your work and pasting on the platform. The checker will check your work and will detect any form of plagiarism before your work is published.

Conclusion

Plagiarism is a criminal offence which is punishable by law, therefore it should be avoided.
Never forget to cite a source where you copied an information and also try to be creative with your own words by so doing plagiarism can be avoided.
