Achievement 3 by @bukason007 Task: Content Etiquette

Since I began completing my achievement post in this community, it’s been an interesting and educative journey and I’m grateful for all that I’ve learned so far.

After reading the write-up on Content Etiquette by @cryptokannon, I was able to gain an adequate understanding of the Proof of Brain Concept, the Importance of citation when using other people’s content and how to cite a source.

I also read an article recommended by @cryptokannon titled “The Complete Steemit Etiquette Guide (Revision 2.0)” by @steem.history. I learned so much as regards the rules every Steemians shall abide by when interacting with the Steemit community at large.

The focus of my achievement 3 post is on the Concept of Plagiarism, its types, and how we can avoid it as regards Content Etiquette.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

When it comes to plagiarism, many people tend to think of it as duplicating another person’s original idea. But when it’s seen from that perspective, it lightens the seriousness of the offense.

According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means to use another's production without crediting the source. ^Source

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

I will be listing 5 common types of plagiarism which include the following as below:

Mosaic Plagiarism: This type of plagiarism has to deal with paraphrasing someone’s work without proper citation which makes it very difficult to detect because the plagiarized article is mixed up with many different sources.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism: This is the most common type of plagiarism and it's quite similar to the above kind of plagiarism being the mosaic type. However, the difference is that the copied work isn’t mixed with concepts from other sources.

Complete Plagiarism: As the name implies, this type of plagiarism occurs when someone is presenting entire paperwork as his or her own without proper citation of the originator.

Self Plagiarism: This happens when one copies their own writing intentionally or not.

Accidental Plagiarism: This kind of plagiarism doesn’t always take place on purpose. It either happens when one copies another work and accidentally forgets to cite it or improperly cites the source as a result of a mistake.

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

1. Ensure to cite the source of any copied work.
2. Develop the discipline of being original in any of your content.
3. Try mastering the act of accurate citation.
4. Streamline your copied work to few sources to avoid mix-up when citing.

FINAL THOUGHT

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
