Achievement 2 @bennethade Task : Basic Security on Steem

Hi Great Minds,

It is my amazing pleasure to make a post for my achievement 2 task.

In today’s digital world, the importance of having a secure system of user login details can not be overemphasized. Hence, I found the need to write about the amazing things I discovered and understood while studying the Basic Security System of Steem.

Question 1:

Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?

I would say with a simple phrase ‘YES.’ I was able to easily retrieve all my keys because it was pretty easy for me. In order to do that, I just clicked on the wallet button as shown and highlighted below.

After clicking on the wallet button, the next thing to do is to click on the Keys & Permissions tab.

Then scroll down considerably to find a sub-tab having the names of the different keys on the steem blockchain. Then you can click on any of these sub-tabs you want.

Question 2:

Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

Yes, I do. After downloading the PDF, there was a simple and precise explanation given on each of the keys. Hence, I was able to grasp their functions and restrictions.

Posting Key: This key is a very vital key. It is used on steemit to carry out the day-to-day activities on the platform, like posting, voting or muting other users etc.
Active Key: This key is used for generally monetary issues like transferring tokens.
Memo Key: From my understanding of this key, it states that this key can be used to decrypt private memos.
Owner Key: This is probably the highest key as it is used to recover a hacked or compromised account. This depicts that with the use of the owner key, you can reset all other keys earlier mentioned.
Master Key: The master key is generally used for extraction of all other keys.

Question 3:

How do you plan to keep your master password?

First of all, after seeing the zigzag nature of the key, I knew I will not be able to recite it by heart. Hence, I made an ultimate plan on keeping my master key safe by creating an encrypted document file, and then store it in my external hard drive. I also decided to write it down in my private jotter so as to have a backup in case one of them fails.

Question 4:

Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?

Yes, I know how to do that.

In order to transfer your steem token to another steem user, you have to click on the ‘profile’ button, then click on ‘wallet’ as shown below.

Then click on your steem balance and hit ‘Transfer’.

Then you have to wait for the next page to open up which looks exactly as the one below.

Fill in the fields correctly and then hit on the Next button.

Question 5:

Do you know how to power up your STEEM?

Yes, I know how to power up my steem.

Still on your ‘wallet’ page, click on your steem balance and hit the Power Up button as shown below.

Then fill in the details as it satisfies your desire, then hit on the power up button.

This is actually all I have known about the Basic Security on Steem for now, even as I make more research to have a better knowledge on it.
