Greetings, Steemians!

I'm overjoyed to be able to write this accomplishment today. Despite the fact that it has been a long time since I planned to write it, I am hopeful that I will be able to do it today. Plagiarism is an issue that cannot be overstated, yet I shall explore it in this post.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined by Stanford University as "the use of another person's original work without giving reasonable and appropriate credit to or acknowledging the author or source, whether such work is made up of code, formulas, ideas, language, research, strategies, writing, or other form, without giving reasonable and appropriate credit to or acknowledging the author or source."

Consequences of plagiarism

Plagiarism has a variety of consequences. It can be a professional issue, a legal issue, or a personal issue. And there's no such thing as ignorance when it comes to plagiarism, which is to say that ignorance is not an excuse when you're found. Plagiarism can currently be detected in a variety of ways, including by software detection, which is widely employed. The plagiarist is sanctioned after plagiarism is discovered.

Consequences are as follows;

It tarnishes the reputation of students.

Plagiarism can harm a student's reputation in a variety of ways, depending on the school. When caught, some students are suspended or expelled, which has an impact on their academic record or standing. When it comes to plagiarism, certain colleges, universities, and other educational institutions have taken it quite seriously. And has also assembled a group of people with the purpose of achieving a specific goal, most notably with formal protocols such as suspending or dismissing a kid from school. Students who were found guilty were punished by a law enforcement commission organized by any educational institution.

It damages a professional's reputation:

When a professional, such as a businessperson or a politician, is found guilty of plagiarism, their reputation is damaged.

Plagiarism and How to Avoid It.

Plagiarism, according to Raimo Streefkerk, can be avoided by taking the following steps:

Step 1: Organize your sources.
Make a note of the source of each item of information you find when conducting research and taking notes for your work. One method students commit plagiarism is by forgetting where an idea came from and presenting it as their own unintentionally.
By keeping your notes organized and producing a list of citations as you go, you may easily avoid this issue. Keep note of all the sources you use, including websites, magazine articles, and videos, in addition to books and journal articles.
Then you can easily go back and double-check where you found a term, fact, or concept for your article.

Step 2: Use a quotation and paraphrase it.
If you wish to convey an idea or a piece of information from a source while writing your paper, you must either paraphrase or quote the original text.

Quoting

Copying a piece of text word for word is known as quoting. The copied content must be introduced in your own words, with quotation marks around it, and the original author accurately credited:

For example, the concept of wilderness, according to Cronon, is a cultural invention: “Far from being the one location on Earth that stands apart from humans, it is essentially a human creation—indeed, the creation of very specific human cultures at very specific points in human history.”

Paraphrasing

Using your own words to explain something from a source is known as paraphrasing. It enables you to offer only the most crucial details from a section. When paraphrasing, be sure that your material isn't too similar to the source to avoid plagiarism.

Conclusion

It is important to prevent plagiarism because it harms our reputation, whether we are students, professionals, or politicians. Let us say no to plagiarism and encourage our children to do the same.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
