ACHIEVEMENT 2 by @arahman. TASK; BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT
Hello guys, I am so glad to be given this opportunity to show what I have learnt about BASIC SECURITY ON STEEMIT
Today I’m going to talk about the basic security on Steemit and also explain the various keys and how they work (posting key, the active key, the owner key and then the memo key)
Question one; have you retrieved all your keys?
First of all, I would like to encourage newbies on here to save their copy the keys offline, either on a print out or on a pen drive.
Functions of the keys
Let’s start by talking about the Posting Key. This particular key is used to log into your account and it is also used to perform other functions such as posting, commenting and voting. It can also be used to follow steemiants and mute other users on steemit.
Secondly I’ll like to talk about the Owner Key. With this key, I strongly recommend you keep it offline at all times. It is only used when you want to reset all other keys. So imagine someone gets a hold of this key, you could lose your account. That is, if a person gets your owner key he/she could definitely use it to steal your account. The owner key allows you to recover your account within 30 days if it gets compromised.
The next key I’ll talk about is the Active Key. This key is specifically used in all things relating to money and your wallet. It is used in some actions such as transfer of funds and powering of STEAM (either up or down).
The last key to talk about is the Memo key. It is used to encrypt and decrypt memos when transferring funds. The pound sign is used to decrypt memos.
How to do you plan to keep your master password
Another important thing you should note is your Master password. This key is used to generate all the other keys including the owner key. I strongly urge you to save it in a secure place. For me personally, I have downloaded the key as a file and stored a copy on my pen drive and another copy on iCloud.
How to Transfer Steam Token to another User
- Firstly click on the avatar icon at the right-top corner. A drop down menu will appear.
- Select and click on wallet from the drop down menu.
- Click on the first highlighted steem with a drop down option.
- Select transfer from the drop down menu.
- Dialogue box will appear then you fill in with the username of the person you’re transferring the money to and the amount you are transferring.
Below shows all the steps involved in transferring Steem Token
How to Power up your STEEM
- One again click on your Avatar profile
- Click on Wallet
- Click on the first STEEM option with the downward arrow and select power up.
- A menu will appear. Enter the amount you want to power up with and click on power up.
Below shows the step by step in Powering up your steem.
These are the basic securities on STEEM you should know about. Thank you for your time. That will be all for now.

There are two errors in the top of your post, the first being to "store it offline on your computer" means what? I recommend printing out the entire set of keys and put them away in a safe place in your house, and yes, perhaps a pen drive, flash or external hard drive, something that is disconnected from the computer if someone got in.
The second one is Steem is "Steem", not Steam, where it says "Steam Token".
One other thing you should also know, that Steem is the blockchain token, Steemit is the website "Steemit.com", and Steemit, Inc is the corporation that owns the website Steemit.com.
Other than that it's a really good beneficial post that you should be proud of, and educational!
Thank you. I’ll make the corrections. I really appreciate
Nice work. Hopefully @njyawan will attend to this post task soon. Keep on working on the next task. 😊
Thanks.
Great work @arahman,
Sorry for missing the curation window for this post task.
A catch-up vote will be given on the next.
