Hello Great Steemians!
It is a actually very interesting to learn about content etiquette.
There are lot of things to learn everyday and learning about new things stops the day we stop leaving. Before I signed up in this platform, I was told that in steemit, it is wrong to use someone's body of work without referencing the owner or the source and that it is wrong to copy and paste someone's article or publication.

So in this achievement program, the plagrisim topic has been explained and I now have a good knowledge of what plagrisim is and how to avoid it.
Let us get on with it.

What is plagrisim

According to university of Oxford, "plagrisim is presenting someone else's work or idea's as your own with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagrisim may be international or reckless, or unintentional. Under the regulations for examination, intentional or reckless plagrisim is a disciplinary offence".Source

In simple terms, plagrisim is using what you didn't create as if you created it. And this can copying and pasting sentences or paragraph from a publication without citation and also using someone's full body of work as it is entirely yours.
A person who involved in this act is called a plagrist.

Types of Plagrisim

We have different types of Plagrisim, they Direct Plagrisim, mosiac plagrisim, Self-plagrisim, and accidental plagrisim of which Direct and Mosiac plagrisim are most common.

Direct Plagrisim
This is a copying or adopting a part of someone's work without citing the source and also adding quotation mark to indicate that was adopted from someone else's work.

Mosaic Plagrisim

This from of Plagrisim is most of the time not unintentional. This happen when the Plagrisim have cited the source but fails to add quotatioan marks correctly to the adapted part.

Self-Plagrisim

This is one of the most common type of plagrisim. This happens when an author
repost a part or a full article of what he had already posted. This type of Plagrisim kind of annoys the readers or consumers because hummans get tired of seeing the same thing over and over.

Accidental Plagrisim

This happens when a plagiarist misquotes a part of the article adapted, cites the wrong source or does not cite the source properly.

How to Avoid Plagrisim

**Below are few ways to stop plagrisim.

  1. Always include quotation marks in texts or copied from other author.

  2. Make sure you cite your source of your information.

  3. Be creative and present your work with your own idea.

  4. Use a plagrisim checker to be sure you haven't committed plagiarism.

Conclusion
Plagrisim is the theft and if caught, depending on the weight, may be treated like a criminal case. So in order to avoid such a problem, one need to be acquainted with what Plagrisim means and ways to avoid it.

It's a thing of pride to be original and in cases where we obtained information from other sources, we must try to make reference to these sources. This adds to authenticity of our work and adds dignity to our works as well.
