what is plagiarism

According to Cambridge dictionary
Plagiarism is the procedure or practice of using another person ideas or work and pretending that it is your own. Source

according to oxford dictionary

Plagiarism is presenting someone else work or idea as your own, with or without their consent.Source

In my own understanding, plagiarism is the representation of another user, thought, ideas, or expression/post as ones original work.

Type/kind of plagiarism

It is divided into several types. I will list and explain few of them.

• Direct plagiarism: this is when a person copies and paste the text from someone else work and neglect to cite the source of which the text was taken from.

• Self plagiarism: This is when a person copy and paste part of his/her previous work as a new post.

• Mosaic plagiarism: This occur when the writer Borrows phrase or even part from a particular source or material without using punctuation marks. It is also the act of copying someone else work, merging them to form one post and also presenting it as your work.

• Accidental plagiarism: this is when the person present the work that had already been used by another user without knowing.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM

• It destroy a person's reputation.
• It also attracts down votes on one's post.

Ways to avoid plagiarism

• CommIt to doing your own work.
• Use a plagiarism checker before presenting your work.
• Paraphrase from your copied content, and add your own ideas.
