Achievement 6 Task By @Afrimate: Understanding Curation And Community

in Newcomers' Community2 years ago

Top of the day to you all. I want to apologize for coming rather late with this task. That was because there was a mix up in my head between achievement 6 and Compilation post.

However, having resolved the misconception, let me explain the following questions according to instructions:

  1. Do you understand how voting and curation work in steemit?

  2. What happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes marks after posting?

  3. Who will you vote for Steem Witness and Why?

  4. Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?

Starting from the first question, let's get started.

Do You Understand How Voting And Curation Work In Steemit.

Voting

Yes I do and I will explain. Voting can either be upvote or downvote. While upvote is what a steemit user do when he's pleased with the content of a post or comment, downvote means the user is displeased. When a user upvotes a post both the author and curator earns.

However, it is the opposite when it is a downvote. In the event of downvote the author's earnings reduces while the curator earns nothing. On the contrary, some curators do not downvote contents necessarily because they are displeased.

Some would likely do that and leave a comment why they did, other may not have the luxury.

The screenshot below shows how vote. At the end of every published post is the two arrows as it is shown. The first is pointing upwards, while the other is downwards. If you hit the one pointing upwards, you have upvoted and the other downvote

Curation

To every vote, there's a curator. Invariably, it is those who vote that are known as curators. As a curator you may wish to downvote or upvote according to you judgement of a content you read.

Normally on steemit, authors and curators share a reward pool for a given content 50-50. However, the part going to the curator has a rule guiding it. That will take us to the next question.

2. What Happens If You Vote A Post Before 5 Minutes

When a post get an upvote immediately it is published, it gets nothing from the reward. According to steemit, the curator couldn't have read the content. If the upvote came after a minute it was made, it get just 20% of the rewards, leaving 80% in the reward pull. When it is upvoted after 2 minutes, it gets 40% percent of the whole reward.

The post gets 60% and 80% respectively when it is upvoted 3 and 4 minutes after publishing. It only get the full rewards leaving nothing in the reward pool when it was upvoted after 5 minutes it was published it is published.

Why The Differences In Reward?

You may be asking why must the rewards vary according to time. Very good question. Steemit is a very organized and reputable publishing platform. They care about quality.

They understand that people may be in a hurry to vote their favorite authors, not necessarily because they have read their contents. That's cutting corners if you will agree with me. Steemit wants to make sure a curator must have read and got value before upvoting.

It's obvious that a user who voted immediately didn't obviously read at all. That why there's no reward for every upvote on a post the moment it was made.

Who Will You Vote For Steem Witness? And Why?

To answer this question we must explain who witness is on steemit.

Who Is A Witness On Steemit?

A witness is a person who mints steem coin. He's to steemit who a miner is to other blockchains technologies. While miners in other blockchain operate with big machines that consume enormous power, steem witnesses operate with a better technology that consume less power.

That however doesn't mean they operate on zero cost.

Why Vote Witnesses?

Witness on steemit are the reason authors and curators get rewards. Funny enough, they get only 20% of the Steem they mint, while 80% is shared between authors and curators. As it is in every venture, they spend to mint those coins. Sometimes, they run at a lost as a result of lack of votes from users. Some even get frustrated and quit.

Imagine all the witness having to quit, users will get no reward and the system may crash. This means that it is a duty every steemian must engage as often as possible.

Which Community Will You Join In Steemit, And Why?

I understand community on steemit means niche in in general terms. Every community has a particular area of life they specialize. For instance, tech, food, photography, Fashion, etc. Every author is expected to join any community that align with his interest.

However, for authors like me that have interest in a wide range of niches. What do we do? I personally have joined many groups, as the system permits. I get interested in many things. Being restricted to one community will make my diverse idea to suffer.

So, in order not to run out of ideas, I have joined many communities and still joining. These are the list of the communities I have joined: Newcomers Steemalive. The screenshot below will explain some of the communities I have subscribed to.
