His main job was to take classes of bureaucrats. But Detective Jack Crawford got a chance to use this special skill of his. Crawford takes him from the classroom to the crime scene.
Detective Crawford and the FBI are losing sleep over a serial killer named The Chesapeake Reaper. Unable to trace the killer, Detective Crawford decided to use Will's special skills. Will became acquainted with a psychiatrist as the criminals turned their heads in the course of this investigation. His name is Dr. Hannibal Lecter. From the moment he met Dr. Lecter, Will Graham's life began to change in a completely different way, with blood, death, madness, and cannibalism mixed together. And one after another chapters of madness by Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter are unveiled in front of the audience.
Many are familiar with Hannibal Lecter, the most infamous and ferocious cannibal in the literary world. Hannibal the Cannibal was born in 1981 in Thomas Harris' crime fantasy book Red Dragon. This infamous character has been adapted many times since then. The Red Dragon was first adapted to the big screen in 1986 in the Manhunter movie Michael Man. The most successful and popular adaptation of Hannibal's character to date came in the timeless presentation of Sir Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins won the Best Actor award at the 1992 Academy Awards for this performance.
Long after, in 2001, director Ridley Scott brought Hopkins' Hannibal back to Hannibal, a sequel to the film Silence of the Lambs. The next installment of Hannibal Lecter came in the 2002 sequel to the prequel to Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon. Then comes our today's series, the psychological thriller Hannibal, created in 2013 by Brian Fuller. Brian Fuller wants to show Hannibal's early story in his TV series. This Hannibal has not yet been captured by Will Graham. Yet he is a respected psychologist in society. The image of bestiality in the guise of this brilliant psychiatrist has come up with great skill.
Special caution
There is no shortage of blood and cruelty in the Hannibal series. From cutting off a person's head directly to extracting a brain, cutting out a stomach, extracting a liver, eating the skin of the mouth, in a word, all the horrible scenes have been clearly shown. Every episode brings new horrors. Therefore, those who do not have the habit of watching such scenes or if there is a chance to see the problem, then it would be better to avoid it.
Talking about the TV series, first of all, it can be started by praising the performance of Mads Mickelsen in the title character. After Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter, it was almost impossible to make this character his own. But Mickelsen's strong performance has made that impossible. Hannibal in the series seemed to be entirely his own work. Hannibal's personality, enthusiasm, thought process and most importantly, his insane instincts are all crafted by him.
The reverse side of Hannibal's coin is Will Graham. Hugh Dance's performance in this character will be less than excellent. Hugh Dancy skillfully portrays Will's complex character in all scenes, all moments. All the characters in the series have worked perfectly. Some of the great performances have been contributed by a few guest actors and actresses. Not to mention the names of two of them. Michael Pitt's Mason Verger and Jillian Anderson's Dr. Bedilia de Maureen.
In the series, we see Hannibal through the eyes of Will Graham. This aspect makes the series much more interesting. We know that Hannibal Lecter is not just a psychiatrist, but in Will's eyes. There is no doubt that a criminal profile worker, whose job it is to think like a criminal, is so close to a terrible cannibal. The whole setting is different.
One of the strongest elements of the series is its writing. There is a lot of talk about very complex psychological issues. Since the main character of the series is a psychiatrist and the main subject is about the psychological side of the person, the lion's share of the series is cut through complex psychological arguments. But for the sake of writing, these issues have been presented as quite appropriate and interesting.
The Hannibal series is a fitting and special addition to Hannibal Lecter's legacy. The series has added some more dimensions to this timeless character by being able to capture the essence of this character beautifully. Hundreds of fans are hoping for the rebirth of the series, which has ended in just three seasons.
