STEEM PLANTS CONTEST: Week #14 || Keffir Lime : "Jeruk Purut Bali" - by @liameutia

Hi Steemian..

How are you? I hope all of you in good health. First, thanks to @knopka145, who once again held a contest with the theme Steem Plants Contest.

It's an extraordinary contest. We can know various kinds of plants that exist in all corners of the world. So that it can increase knowledge about plants and their benefits.

Today, I will share one of the plants in my yard, namely ”Jeruk Purut”.

In Indonesia, Jeruk Purut is familiar and is often used as an ingredient for cooking.

Judging from its size, the Jeruk Purut that grows in my yard is not like kaffir lime in general. This kaffir lime has a much larger size, even reaching 5 times that of ordinary kaffir lime. Because of its much larger size, it is better known as "Jeruk Purut Bali".

This Jeruk Purut Bali is quite rare. So far, I have only seen it in my yard. I've never seen it anywhere else. In the market also no one sells it. Kaffir lime sold in the market are ordinary kaffir limes, which are much smaller in size.

The use of Jeruk Purut is not much different from Lemon, which is a type of fruit that is used to add a pleasant aroma and fresh taste to food. The taste of this fruit gives a refreshing shock effect to the dish.

The difference between Jeruk Purut and Lemon can be seen from its shape. Jeruk Purut has a rough and wrinkled skin texture with a shape that is not too round, besides that the flesh of the fruit is denser when compared to Lemon.

This Jeruk Purut tree was planted by my mother since I was little. My mother bought the seeds from the plant seller. It is old, so the stems are already high and the fruit cannot be reached by hand.

However, we don't need to pick it. If the fruit is old enough, it will fall by itself. Every morning I pick up the fruit that falls on the ground. If it is picked when it is young, the water content is only a little and the taste is bitter, so we should wait for the fruit to fall.

The fruit is quite a lot, my mother often distributes it to neighbors, they like it because of its large size, with just one fruit they can make several dishes.

Apart from being a cooking ingredient, there are so many benefits to this Jeruk Purut. Some of the benefits that I can feel such as:

  • Maintain the freshness of the scalp and hair

I, along with my mother and sister, often use this fruit if the scalp feels dry and hair falls out. Jeruk Purut will be very helpful, namely by applying Jeruk Purut juice to the hair and scalp.

After that, let it sit for a while and then wash it off with shampoo. This is because Jeruk Purut contains antibacterial properties that can get rid of dandruff and other scalp problems.

  • Face Care

The content of antioxidants in Jeruk Purut juice is quite high. The point is, it can suppress excess oil production on the face and produce brighter skin. The juice of Jeruk Purut juice will overcome the bacteria on the face and remove it through the pores so that the skin can be free from acne.

  • As Aromatherapy and Repel Insects

Jeruk Purut has a distinctive aroma that can make you more relaxed so that you can overcome stress, anxiety, and fatigue about something. We only need to inhale the aroma of Jeruk Purut, both whole fruit, and Jeruk Purut oil.

I usually put it in the break room. The aroma will make you more relaxed and relaxed. The smell of Jeruk Purut is also not liked by insects, such as mosquitoes. By putting this Jeruk Purut, the room will not be free from mosquitoes.

  • Boost Immune

The high content of vitamin C in Jeruk Purut can help increase endurance. My mother often serves it in water infusion and adds a little honey, then drinks it in the morning. It makes the body feel fresher.

In addition to the fruit, Jeruk Purut leaves are also often used for cooking purposes. For example, sliced and used in the seasoning of pecel and rempeyek (typical food from Indonesia). Besides being useful as a cooking spice, Jeruk Purut leaves also have many other benefits.

Jeruk Purut leaves can be used as a healthy drink for the body. Drinking boiled water Jeruk Purut leaves is very good for your health.

Especially during the rainy season, drinking boiled water from Jeruk Purut leaves can overcome and prevent the flu. The aroma of citrus leaves and the content of essential oils make the flu virus not easy to enter the body.

How to make a drink from Jeruk Purut leaves is also very easy. Just prepare 20 Jeruk Purut leaves, thinly sliced. Then prepare boiling water. After the water boils, add the Jeruk Purut leaves. Wait until the water changes color. After changing color, strain the Jeruk Purut leaf water. Drink boiled water Jeruk Purut leaves while warm.

In addition to treating and preventing the flu, drinking a decoction of Jeruk Purut leaves can eliminate bad breath. People in the past, before knowing toothpaste, often chewed Jeruk Purut leaves.

We can chew Jeruk Purut leaves to keep the mouth fresh. Leaf extract from Jeruk Purut fruit has been used as a mixture of some organic toothpaste. This is not without reason, because Jeruk Purut leaf extract is considered to be able to nourish the oral cavity.

This leaf is believed to reduce the buildup of bacteria in the oral cavity which can trigger various gum and tooth problems.

There are so many benefits that can be obtained from this Jeruk Purut. It is only natural that many people deliberately plant it in their home gardens, even though they are planted with ordinary Jeruk Purut which are much smaller in size. It doesn't matter the type of grapefruit or ordinary Jeruk Purut, both have many benefits.

That's all for my post this time. Thanks for reading and thanks for the support. See you again in the next plant. Be useful.

Warm Regard,

@liameutia
