STEEM PLANTS CONTEST WEEK #12 : MAYANA ( SCUTELLARIOIDES OR COLEUS ATROPURPUREUS)

The scientific name for the plant Mayana is Scutellarioides or Coleus atropurpureus.

Traditionally used in the field of medicine and is primarily used for pain, sore, swelling and cuts and in other instances as adjunct medication for delayed menstruation and diarrhea.

There is a large number of Coleus blumei hybrids which can be mistaken for other Coleus species. Mayana is an erect, branched, fleshy, annual herb, about 1 meter high according to some of my research.

Coleus are known as ornamental plants, particularly Coleus scutellarioides, which is popular as a garden plant for its brightly colored foliage and its bright color is one of what I love about this plant.

Currently, I have 3 varieties of Mayana (coleus). This plant is easy to grow, I mostly flourish them with at least dappled shade and direct sun limited to few hours. Also this kind of plant is not edible and poisonous to human.

Additional information that I have heard is that it has a lot of health benefits, due to its essential oils and antioxidants. Beauty color make this plant more attractive to display outside especially with those of light colors. I love plants and decided to plant this one during quarantine since its somewhat interesting and beautiful to look everyday.
And I have a trivia, when you feel like your eyes are sore or you feel too much radiation just look at the green plants, it will surely relax and soothe your eyes.
