“Movie That You Watch Over and Over Again” ||Passengers||

First of all, I want say a big thank you to @sergeyk and Steem-BRU for making this contest possible and available for all. The movie I want to share after watching it over and over again for only God knows how many times even though is not my favorite movie, is titled Passengers.

Passengers is an American sci-fi (science fiction) and romantic movie released in 2016. It was directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts. The movie depicts two passengers who are awakened 90 years too early from an induced hibernation from their pods in a spaceship, the Avalon carrying over 5000 other passengers and crew members of the ship from earth to a new planet Homestead II for colony with the journey lasting 120 years. The film stars are Chris Patt and Jennifer Lawrence with Lawrence Fishburne and Micheal Sheen as supporting roles, all played the roles of, Jim Preston a mechanical engineer, Aurora Lane a writer and journalist, Gus Mancusa the chief deck officer other spaceship and Arthur an android bartender, all in the Avalon.

The story starts with the Avalon a spaceship transporting 5000 passengers with 250 crew members of the spaceship from earth to a new planet Homestead II for colony. The journey set to last 120 years makes it a necessity for all passengers and the crew members to be put in an induced hibernation to prevent aging and possible death until one month to reach the planet. Thirty (30) years into the journey, the spaceship collides with an asteroid that damages the ship even though is hypothetically supposed to be damage-proof and has self-maintenance and self-repair. The damages incurred by the ship after the asteroid collision results in a malfunction of a pod that contains Jim Preston a mechanical engineer, waking him up from the hibernation 90 years too early. Jim waking up as the only person in the ship and realizing that he was up too early starts to panic and try all that he can to put himself back to hibernation.

Jim fails to put himself back to hibernation, gives up and already lived a full one year in isolation with the company of android bartender Arthur in the Avalon. Jim feeling depressed and despondent and even thinks of committing suicide till he notices a beautiful young woman called Aurora in her hibernation pod. Jim makes research on Aurora in the ship and after viewing her video files, he becomes deeply affected and develops strong feelings for Aurora Lane. Jim now contemplates on the decision to revive Aurora from her hibernation thereby depriving her of her life in other to have her company. He finally after some thoughts and conversations with Arthur and makes the bold decision to awake her anyway making her believe that her pod also malfunctioned as his did. He then asks Arthur to keep the secret of never to tell Aurora what truly happened to her pod until he have told her.

Aurora on waking up believing that her pod also malfunctioned also try to put herself back to hibernation because she was also devastated on having to live out the rest of her live on the ship. After failed attempts to re-enter hibernation, she finally gives up and accepts her faith. She also starts to live her life in the ship and begins to write a book about her experienced with Jim as the only two awaked passengers in the Avalon. Years pass with Jim and Aurora slowly grew closer and falling in love eventually. Jim plans to propose to Aurora, but Arthur the android bartender, hears Jim mentioning that he and Aurora has “no secretes” hidden from each other now. So Arthur the android, inadvertently discloses the truth to her. Aurora, upset, bounces between bad mouthing, rejecting, and physically attacking Jim.

Multiple failures occur aboard the Avalon one after the other, and Gus Mancuso, deck chief officer, is awakened by another pod failure. Despite the computer's refusal to reveal their source, he discovers many malfunctions throughout the ship's systems. If the ship is not repaired, critical system failures will continue, and the mission will fail, potentially resulting in the deaths of all the hibernating passengers and crew. Gus tries to repair the ship with the help of Jim and Aurora, but he quickly becomes critically ill as a result of complications caused by the failure of his pod's life support. He then gives his ID to Jim and Aurora to have to all areas of the Avalon in other to fix the ship before he then died.

Jim and Aurora now working together go on to fix the ship, they found out that the power of the ship has been damaged from the collision of the asteroids two years ago. Jim has go into the power chamber in a space suit to fix it whilst Aurora hits a button to restart the engine when he’s done. He fixes the power but unfortunately getting trapped in the chamber, and tells Aurora that he has to stay in the chamber to manually keep power on whilst she restarts the engine, and this was risky idea brought up by Jim, one that could lead to him losing his life. Aurora restarts the engine and tells Jim that she is afraid of losing him and that she loves him very much. Jim manages his way out of the chamber but his space suit develops a leak and he suffocating to nearly death. Aurora manages to bring back into the ship and eventually reviving him using an autodoc machine, the Avalon now gets back to normal and all passengers safe.
Afterwards, Jim learns that the autodoc machine can serve as a hibernation chamber, and some will back to hibernation and willing to stay alone in the ship, but Aurora truly loving Jim turns down the idea and admits she will want to stay with Jim forever.

80 years later a month before arriving to Homestead II, the crew of the ships wakes up from hibernation seeing that there was vegetation in the ship, the movie ends there with Aurora’s voice over the background narrating the adventure that she and Jim leaved over the years whilst everyone was asleep.

This movie catches my interest because it concept asks the question, that could you truly force someone to live their life with you?
