En mi opinión sí es importante el dinero, sin adorarlo ni vivir para él.

In my opinion, money is important, without worshipping it or living for it.

No constituye el dinero lo esencial en la vida, pero sí es un instrumento útil para cumplir los compromisos. En mi pueblo tienen este dicho: “tanto tienes, tanto vales” de manera jocosa dan a entender que si no tienes dinero, no vales nada. Y eso no es así. Hay otro refrán que dice: “El dinero está hecho, lo que hay es que buscarlo”, ésta última ha levantado a más de uno en mi familia. Para obtenerlo hay que salir y trabajar: manos a la obra.

Money is not the essential thing in life, but it is a useful instrument to fulfill commitments. In my town they have this saying: "as much as you have, so much you are worth" in a jocular way they imply that if you don't have money, you are worth nothing. And that is not so. There is another proverb that says: "The money is ready, what you have to do is to look for it", this last one has raised more than one in my family. To get it, you have to go out and work: let's get to work.

Decir que no importa el dinero, no es lo mismo que llevarlo a efecto. Pero de igual forma insto a mis hijos a que mantengan un enfoque productivo, que sepan que el dinero hay que ganarlo honestamente, independientemente de la forma cómo procedan los demás para adquirirlo. Eso sí, en mi vida y en mi hogar las orientaciones son muy certeras. Cuando sacamos cuenta del gasto mensual: TV por cable, celulares, internet, servicios fijos, se hace imposible afirmar que el dinero no es importante, y eso sin mencionar lo más importante: que puede ser útil para ayudar a los otros.

Saying that money doesn't matter is not the same as putting it into effect. But I also urge my children to maintain a productive approach, to know that money must be earned honestly, regardless of how others go about acquiring it. In my life and in my home, the guidelines are very accurate. When we take into account the monthly expenses: cable TV, cell phones, internet, fixed services, it becomes impossible to affirm that money is not important, and that without mentioning the most important thing: that it can be useful to help others.
