STEEM PLANTS CONTEST WEEK 14 : The Acheampong Plant ( CHROMOLAENA ODORATA ) THAT SAVED GHANAIANS IN 1982 FAMINE - 31/05/21

Hello everyone!

I'm excited to be a part of this contest this week, and I'll take this chance to congratulate the Week 13 winners as well as share my delight at finding this contest today, as it wasn't available last week.

In this piece, I'll discuss a plant known scientifically as Chromolaena odorata, but we call it Acheampong after Ghana's president, Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, who died in 1982 during a famine in which this plant served as the only source of soup for Ghanaians.

"SELFIE WITH THE MULTI PURPOSE PLANT

The plant has a soft green stem and oval leaves with zigzag edges, as well as a rough texture on the leaves. The plant bears flowers from an early stage and sheds them throughout the rainy season.Because this plant grows naturally on farm land, it serves as a parasite to other plants that farmers raise. It grows about 2000 feet above sea level and requires a lot of sunshine to grow.

Their leaves are similarly succulent, with a light fragrance that isn't overpowering and doesn't choke.

IMPOTANCE OF THIS PLANT

NUITRITION

According to studies undertaken by scientists, this Chromolaena Odorata has various nutrients that benefit both farm lands and the human body. These are the nutrients they listed:

  • Phenol
  • Alkaloids
  • Flavonoid
  • Limonene
  • Tannin
  • Triterpenoid

HEALTH

As I indicated in my introduction, during the famine in Ghana, these leaves served as a source of food and medicine for the people. I grew these leaves with my grandmother and will teach each reader here how to use them to control blood flow when there is a cut.

  • First, go to the field and collect a single plant

  • Remove the leaves and clean them with fresh pure water

  • Now massage them between your palms till a green liquid emerges

  • Green water can be used to clean a wound or a cut as an alcohol.
  • Putting the leave on the wound or cut will also clot the blood flowing

SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF THIS PLANT

  • Drinking at least a cup of boiling water of this every morning and evening will improve your immune system, prevent any body pains, lower cholesterol, and treat stomach ulcers.
  • Drying the leaves and heating them as tea can help prevent cervical cancer in women.
  • It is an excellent treatment for diabetics.
  • Finally, the same leaves can be used to preserve dead bodies; in the days before mortuaries, this plant was the only way to keep bodies alive.

Thank you all for reading this post; I hope it has been of great use to you in your life, and I'd like to thank @knokpa145 for bringing this contest back this week.
