SEC-S6W2: "I Am a Teacher"| I love teaching
Hello, everyone, it is yet another beautiful week for me to relate with you all in the cause of the going season 6 of the steemit engagement challenge contest. This week's topic is “ I am a teacher ” and I'm so happy to participate because the topic is very interesting. But before I answer the questions required for this contest let me refresh our minds on who a teacher is.
A teacher is someone capable of imparting knowledge to a learner for him or her to understand what's been thought, also a teacher has to be of mutual understanding with his learner for the transfer of learning to take place between the students and the teacher in the process of communication.
Whose teacher are you? Do you teach for a living?
I am a teacher in one of the private schools in my state called solid learners college and I teach computers for the senior and secondary classes. I started this job when I came for my NYSC service here in Kwara state Nigeria I never thought I could stand in front of pupils and teach not until I was sent to this very school to teach. At first, I never wanted to teach but at some point, I decided to give it a try, and behold I'm enjoying the job with everything in me.
Spending time with my student is very refreshing even though most of the students can't speak correct English even at that I enjoy it when I share my knowledge with them and being around them makes me happy, to the extent I wished to continue teaching for the rest of my life.
What challenges have you faced as a teacher?
Teaching work is not that easy at all, because you will always make sure that you carry all the students alone so that they will understand what you are teaching them. As I mentioned early in the school where I'm teaching most of the students don't understand English too well, so for that reason I usually take my time whenever I'm teaching them. And that is one of the challenges i'm facing.
Another challenge I'm having is time management, I don't usually have time for myself because I usually go to work by 7:30 am and close by 4:00 pm. After the closing period, I use to take extra classes with the SS3 student in the preparation for the forthcoming exams. Sometimes before I come back home it's by 6:00 pm.
Lastly, the challenge I'm facing is that the school doesn't have standard computer equipment that will enable me to carry out practicals for my students.
How do you create a learning environment that is both stimulating and supportive?
This is very simple, as a teacher, I take my time to teach my student well but apart from that, there is this saying that said “all work without play makes John a dull boy” so most often than now to make my class laugh we use to have a little interaction with my student like telling them a story, creating jokes just to make sure that the class is not bored. And whenever my students are tired I understand them very well then I will give them some time to relax before I continue teaching them.
As a teacher, you have to be a good example to all your student because all of them will be looking up to you as a role model for that reason. I always try my best to see that I lead by example.
What professional development opportunities have you pursued to improve your teaching practice?
For now, I just finished my Bs. C in computer science and I'm planning to go for my master's in education line just to improve my teaching practice. But currently, I am not financially strong but in due time I will go for my master God willing.
At present, higher education is very expensive. What is your opinion on this, or is there any alternative to it?
This is one of the reasons why I haven't gone for my master's yet because higher education is very expensive here in my country Nigeria. Most people are willing and ready to further their education after high school but because of the expensive fees, most of them are at home. But all I can say is that the government should make a way so that the fee will not be much, or better still they should provide free education for the less privileged those people who can not afford to pay their school fees. Also, they should make sure that the school environment is very conducive for all the students. In that way, numerous youths will not be sitting down at home doing nothing.
In conclusion, I love teaching because it makes me to learn more. There's this joy when you teach your students and they understand what you taught them. I enjoy teaching job because it enables me to transfer an impact and meaningful knowledge to the learner. I invite @ishayachris @mjerry and @josepha to come and participate in this contest.

Teaching is indeed a very nice profession. Teachers are people that are supposed to be highly regarded and treated very well in our society, but the government keeps neglecting them. The teacher becomes an intermediary between learning resources and students. If students have difficulty understanding learning resources, the teacher must be able to help solve these difficulties. I also share posts about teachers, if you have time please take a look and I am very happy.
